job posting
Hi there. I found my job on a really good site. It has both US and Canada on it. You can search by type of nursing, location or type of place (for example rural vs urban or mountains vs prairies.). There is loads on information about the different provinces on it too. The address is www.medhunters.com. Good luck and let us know how you make out.

Where are you from?
Hi there Beware of what you hear. I trained in the UK as a Diploma Nurse (project 2000) and my hours were accepted in Alberta. I wrote the exam, got a job and here I am. Tell your friend to confirm it with the College of the province they are interested in before they ditch their plans :)

Am new and desparate to move
I cannot for sure say what you would make bi-weekly, but here is the link to the UNA page whcih gives the current rates of pay. http://www.una.ab.ca/conferences/Nursing%20Salaries/Nursing%20Salaries%20Main%20Page The unions and the AB government are currently in negotiation for new contracts and nurses will be voting on July 11th about accepting or not. The new contract would include a 5% increase yearly for three years. Don`t forget that there are other ocnsiderations other than just basic pay. Shift premiums, vacation time and benifits also vary from province to province.Alberta is pretty high on all the sections (especially shift premiums!) except holiday times. It was a real culture shoick for me when I discovered that holidays for new staff are 15 days plus bank holidays But I understand that BC only gets 20 plus bank holidays, so not really much different. When you do get a job offer-negotiate, negotiate, negotiate!!! Some employers will recognise "seniority" from outside Canada! This seniority works towards your holiday entitlement and is the final deciding factor for vacancies. Anyway hope that helps. Good Luck. If you are interested inmore info about AB, send me a PM.

Am new and desparate to move
Just a quick question. Where are you looking to move to? I trained Project 2000 and moved to Alberta Canada. CARNA assessed my hours (theory and practical ) and I did not have to make up any time. So my advice is to actually submit your transcripts to wherever you are planning to go and see what they say. Good Luck

Assessment of An Internationally Trained RN's Education
Just to clarify that in some instances international nurses can take the CRNE prior to submitting references in AB. The refereces must be from an employer in Canada or he US, they do not accep references from any other country.

Staffing Pool
HI there Just to let youknow that some hospitals have a slightly different concept for floats. In the medical units where I work, we hire people to work on the "medical float teams". They would then work on one of the two medical wards-not anywhere in the hospital. We do get new grads on our float team and the orientation/support should be the same for the float team as the permanent staff(we are currently working to ensure this is happening). Anyhow hope that helps Just confirm with yur hospital which system they use.

Canadian registered nurse exam
Hi manchestergirl. I too was trained in UK and applied to Alberta for assessment. After I got the go ahead, I used the CNA reccommended guide. It is great because it is a study guide and will help you to identify your strengths and weaknesses. Once you have done that, the CNA also have an on-line assessment that you can by for $42.38 which is a mock exam and will hep you to determine your readiness for the exam. Do not forget that the CRNE is the basic exam that all Canadian nurses take to become eligable for registration-you may be surprised by what you already know just because of your experience. Anyhow, I took the exam and passed (even though I am one of those dreadful project 2000 nurses!). If I can be of any further help, just pm me. Any idea where in Alberta you are looking to work once you pass?

Canadian RN exam info required
Hi there. I did my initial training in the UK as a "Project 2000" nurse and moved to Canada last year. I did not have to undergo the SEC, so I am sorry that I can not be much help there. However if there is anything further, please let me know. Good Luck! When do you have the SEC?

Application as a nurse in Canada if immigrant
Have a look at the Canadian immigration website. It tells you everything you need to know to immigrate. The web address is www.cic.gc.ca Your friend would also need to decide which province they would like to move to because they all have different requirements for registering in Canada as an RN. Good luck

Canadian nurses doing foreign degrees
Hi. Is there any Canadian nurses out there who took a post-RN degree from foreign schools? For example, Universiry of Pheonix? What was it like? Has it been recognised in Canada? I have asked this before but did not hear from any nurses who have done it while in Canada. Hope someone can help
