Canadian nurse looking to obtain MI nursing license

Published

Hello, I am in need of advice:

I am a Canadian educated and fully licensed RPN in Ontario. I graduated in 2014 and have been working as an rpn. I live in a small community and jobs for rpns are scarce. I live in a boarder city community. I am looking to obtain a Michigan state LPN nursing license to work in the states. I am looking for some advice from other canadian nurses who have done this. The process seems very overwhelming and I do not know where to start. I wrote the cpnre and passed on my first try, but I believe I am required to write and pass the nclex pn exam as it is my understanding that it is the same for canadian and american nurses. As it has been a while since I have attended school I would like to take a prep/refresher course (preferably online) so if anyone can recommend a good course or program that would e much appreciated as there is many to choose from. Thanks in advance.

LPN won't qualify for TN or other work visa. RNs qualify for TN visa with a job offer and license for a US state. Do you have work rights for the US?

You need to apply for a MI LPN license by examination as an IEN. Instructions here:
