Hey all, just wondering about the process to be an RN in Australia ! Really have no clue what the first steps would be. If anyone could help me out that would be fantastic! Thanks!

Starting point would be checking AHPRA website for International Educated Nurses and once that is sorted you then need to look at work or immigration route

Hi

First of all gather all your paperwork from university. You need

1. The course content you studied

2. How many clinical/practical hours you did

Contact APHRA and find out what other documentation you require.

To be a RN in Australia you must have a bachelor of nursing.

If you have a diploma or an associate degree you may be eligible to apply to be an enrolled nurse

I also recommend getting a year or two of experience - the grad end of the employment market is ultra competitive at the moment, and Australian trained nurses are prioritised for graduate poaitions

Great, thanks for connecting me to APHRA! I have currently been working on a complex Surgery floor (trauma, burns, plastics, general) for 8 months here in Canada. I'd say by the time I get everything sorted Ill be there for well over a year!

Before you apply, evidence must be provided by your educational institute and BON that the program was accredited. Applications sent in before gaining that permission will be tossed.

You will most likely need to coordinate 12 to 18 items for evidence and documentation. This include, but is not limited to; 3-4 pieces of ID, statements from employers, course outlines, proof of clinical hours, secondary and tertiary transcripts, legal declarations, CV, recency of practice, ICHC, continuity of practice, etc.

If most everything is done correctly before sending it in, approval typically take 3 mints or so. Ïf there are issues and communication barriers are in play, it can take several month, even over a year and end up with disappointing results. The overwhelming reasons why qualified international applicant are denied, or asked to take expensive bridging programs, is die to lack of sufficient evidence and incomplete forms.

Mine took 3 months 2 days =).

Good luck.

Hello US RN in OZ,

I'm sorry to piggy back on this post, but I have started my own similar post about moving from US to Oz and someone recommended me reaching out to you for possibly additional info, since you have gone through this process. I, unfortunately am new to this site and unable to send pm's yet, therefore I'm sort of crashing this post. I have recently graduated from am RN ADN program in California and waiting to take the NCLEX after which I will be submitting my application to the Australian board of nursing for review...what degree did you move to Australia with? Would my ADN be a problem as all of the Australian nurses have a bachelor's or would they possibly approve me since I will still be considered an RN? Also would I absolutely have to have work experience when I apply and will be denied if I'm a recent graduate? These are the questions I am having trouble locating answers to, and it would be a great help to hear from someone that has actually gone through this process. I really appreciate any tips you can give me, and so sorry again for crashing this post. í ½í¸Š
