Canadian LPN thinking of moving to the US

Published

Hi

I was wondering if there are any LPN's out there who are Canadian who work in the US? How did you go about getting your license? How easy was it to find a job?

I currently live and work in BC Canada, and I'm thinking of moving to Florida. I have been an LPN for almost 6 years.

Specializes in Complex pedi to LTC/SA & now a manager.

Moved to nurse registration

What visa would you be using ? For a TN visa you must be an RN. For other work visas like H1B you must have RN/BSN. LPN is sufficient for most work visas. Plus depending on what state there may not be many LPN positions available for non citizens/non permanent residents.

Specializes in NICU.

Keep in mind that the scope of practice for LPNS is much narrower in the US as opposed to Canada depending on the state...and i think Florida is one of the more limiting ones.

But don't quote me on that! Florida LPNs...chime in!

Specializes in Acute Care, Rehab, Palliative.

Asbeachy said, LPN will not qualify you for a visa.

Lpns are not qualified for work visa u can only relocate as a lpn in your own country but u cannot get a work visa to work as a lpn in a different country

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

If the OP finds a way to get to the US like family or marriage to a USC then as long as they meet state requirements and pass NCLEX PN then they can be issued a license and work
