What are other people feeling about the exam today? I don't have a great feeling at all!

Is the 570 the number you calculated or is it indicated in your letter? There was a previous post from someone whose friend has a similar situation.

Her friend's numbers (first four #) added up to more than 550.

I live at bramalea and queen right by city center...dont worry we've waited 5 weeks so far....just 1 more week end good luck!

I am not sure if I am correct at all, but all questions are weighted the same, but each competency category is weighted differently (for example, we are tested more changes in health than professional practice). Maybe that's why the numbers do no add up correctly. But from the previous post in this thread where the user posted the sample from CNA, adding the first four numbers and dividing by 4 did in fact give the answer as shown in the same.

This was the sample: http://cna-aiic.ca/~/media/cna/page-content/pdf-en/crne_candidate_performance_profile_e.pdf

Here is a summary of my results i added the following:

professional practice 640

Nurse client relationship 639

health and wellness changes in health 609

changes in health 430

=579 and yet i get a fail result is anyone else going through this and what do i do next? please help

thank you caffeinpostat i did the calculations just like the letter has it not he website and my results are still higher than 550 and yet i get a fail, why do they give 550 as the pass mark and yet someone that gets 57 receives a letter of fail, i don't understand this and to make it even worse the calculated scaled score at the bottom of my letter is not correct it says scale score 540 and yet my actual score is 579

hello,

i wish i can share good news but i failed i did the scale score and my score was 570 + points over the scaled score of 550 that is needed to pass and yet the letter says if your score is 550 and over you pass and under 550 its a fail is anyone else experiencing this problem and what are the next steps in understanding this conflicting information.

The only place where you'll get accurate and valid information on this is from the College. Anyone who has been following this forum and reading the posts related to the CRNE will tell you that there are about as many myths as there are stars in the sky about how the exam is scored, how the results are mailed out, what colour the envelope is, how big the envelope is and pretty much every other aspect. Call the College on Monday and ask to speak to someone from the regulation committee. Ask them to explain your results to you. Nobody who has just passed or failed their exam can tell you anything that will be accurate and valid.

I think the CNA letter may be misleading, where their numbers luckily added up to 542 in their sample, but in reality, perhaps the equation to get the final scaled score is not as simple as we think.

For example, if a random quiz had competency category A with only 5 question, and another competency category B with 59 questions, and a person fails in category B, and passes in A, I do not think they could take the two scores of the category A+B to get a final scaled score, if that makes any sense.

But janfrn has a point that the best place to get an answer is calling college, it may be difficult to deal with and you might not get the answer you're looking for but at least you'll get the most reliable one. I wish I could help you further.

Hopefullapass, I am sorry to hear about your results, keep your head up and face the next challenge even stronger. You were close to the passing score, and will probably be successful the next time. You have the experience now and know what to expect going into it. But don't listen to me, I am still waiting for my result here so I could also be saying this to myself ...

As Janfrn said, none of us can tell you what exactly the breakdown means. However, my GUESS is that questions count for more than one category (eg the same question might have to do with professional practices as well as changes in health) and so in the breakdown, will appear under both. However, in terms of points, it's still just one point on the exam. Example: a question about dealing with an issue of confidentiality around a patient who is deteriorating....the question would only count for 1 mark/point, but in the breakdown, it would appear under both professional practice AND changes in health. So the marks don't just add up to 550 or higher, I believe the college has to apply their "magic" formula to figure out if you passed or not.

I'm curious how it works, so could you let us know perhaps what they say? The above is just my GUESS, and as such, may be completely inaccurate, so don't take it as fact. It's just my personal guess as to what happens.

Janfarm thank you very much, I will do just as you said first thing monday morning. Thank you all for you contributions and good luck to those still waiting.

Sorry to hear about that hopeful. Do you live in Ontario?

I passed, I live in Erindale region mississauga ON. best wishes for rest.

Did they send the pass letters out first? Between this forum and the facebook group I have only seen passes in Ontario ... makes me worry :S
