Can you take A/P without lab

Published

I do not think I am going to pass my A/P lecture class at school. However I passed my A/P lab. Can I take this course again over the summer and not have to take the lab. Does anyone know if there is an online course for lecture?

I'm not entirely sure. I remember back when I was in Human Anatomy & Physiology, the idea was to combine my overall mark in lab into my lecture grade.

My best guess is that you will need to take lab again; however, I would do further research on this. Maybe you can talk to your particular school's academic counselor? Or maybe one of the instructors of Human Anatomy & Physiology?

No, you cannot take just the lecture portion. The class is made up of both components. Just like if you failed the lab portion but passed the lecture, you couldn't just take the lab in the summer, you'd still have to take both together. You might be able to find a hybrid class offered where some of the content is done/learned online, but no matter what you'll still have to physically come for the labs at least. Same for microbiology and all lab classes.

You should really be asking the Registrar and Science department of your school however, in most cases, the lecture and labs are pretty much a packaged deal. You can't take one and not the other.

In any school I've ever attended, if you failed either one, you failed the entire course. However, this may vary from school to school.

There are some schools that do that, mine doesn't, if yours was one that did you would probably be aware of it.

First off, don't discount your grade until it is submitted. Secondly, you should have a much improved grade for both lab and lecture. While it gets submitted as one grade, you can use your strength in lab to cover physiology, if the course needs to be retaken.

I've never heard of such a thing where you Have to take the classes together. It is recommended but not mandatory. If you fail one just retake it in the summer.

I do not think you can. The lab is part of the lecture grade. They are combined and depending how heavily each is weighted you won't get any credit for the class if you fail either. Like I took advanced physiology with lab. It was a 4 credit hour class with 3 lecture and 2 lab each week. The lecture was 45% of your grade and lab was 35% of your grade. The remaining 25% went to midterm and final which was lecture based. So even if I got over a 100% in lab due to a couple of extra credits (which I did, I ended up with a 100.32%), if I didn't pass lecture, I would not get the C needed to pass the class. You most likely are going to have take the entire thing over. Get some tutoring if your school offers it.

I think you can. The school is Quincy College and it does offer A&P I (lecture only for 3 credits) online. You should call for more information. It's a fully accredited community college. But you should make sure that the nursing school you're applying to will accept online courses. I know that some schools specifically say that they do not accept courses taken online. Good luck

at my school up until this coming fall lecture and lab are one grade together (so you have to take both together) but they are switching to separate them to be their own classes so you could repeat just the portion you needed....Check with your school

Best person to ask is your advisor at the nursing school you plan to attend. It's different at every school across the US. The many colleges I've attended you can take them separately with no problem.
