I worked nights as a caregiver for 6 months at a assited living home. It was a couple who owned it. The husband wasn't very nice to his wife, and was on a control binge, bossing her around ect. When I would be off she was forced to work nights and then be up all day working the morning shift. He made her do everything. You didn't see him pitching in to help work shifts. He would scream at other employees, and was very unprofessional. Oneday, I talked to the wife about changing my work schedule, so I can take a class. She agreed and told me it would be ok. So I payed for the class. Onenight when i came on shift, I ran everything back by him. Well, he decided to show me his ugly side. He became rude and beligerent and threaten to fire me. Even after I told him, that his wife already agreed he became more angry and his tone grew louder. And said that he's the "BOSS" and she doesn't make any decisions!!! Really? Why wasn't that stated when they first hired me?? I remember other times I asked him if I could have some days off because I was getting married and he said I should ask his wife for permission! To make the long story short, I stood up for myself and to be honest he didn't deserve a two week notice from me. I just up and quit. Now, I know I shouldn't have done that and I don't plan to quit like that anymore. He just didn't deserve anything from me. I don't know why he behaved that way. I recently just got done taking a CNA class and plan to take the test soon to become certified. Will it be hard for me to find work if I put the couple down that I worked for? I just don't want him to bash me.

If that's your only healtcare experience, I would still put it on your resume and applications. You can always request your potential future employer not contact this former employer - but be prepared to explain what happened and why you don't want them contacted.

In my area CNA jobs are plentiful and experienced, hardworking CNAs are snatched up right away. I hope you find a better place to work next time!!

If you are in an area where there are plenty of jobs for CNAs, you may not have to worry about it. You will most likely be hired before the interview is finished. Otherwise, you should put this job down as you don't have other healthcare experience. You might have to explain the situation, then again, you may get hired and never hear a word about it. Put down "do not contact" on your applications. Good luck.

I would still put down the caregiver job as experience. If possible, I would contact the wife and kindly ask if I could use her name as a reference. Good luck on your exam!

I too worked at a terrible facility, but I just requested that they not be contacted & voila--I got a new job! I really dont think you have anything to worry about :) So relax & just focus on passing your CNA exam! Good luck

I WILL focous on passing my test!!!:) I'am a certified caregiver, and I have worked at other assited living homes in the past. This one was just terrible! lol! Oh well, everyone has to experience working at a bad place at least once right? Hopefully, the next job I get as a CNA will be much better. Thanks to everyone who answered.;)
