sorry :sniff:

I'm just going to throw my .02 in here...

When I first read the post, my first thought was "look it up" also...because as a NURSE that is what one should do, we have an obligation to information-seek out our own knowledge, and to self-assess to determine knowledge gaps (and yes, that includes where to look for answers).

But then...I had the thought, I wonder if this is a woman whose just had this hysterectomy and all of these drugs (because I've noticed that sometimes happens)...and is looking to us nurses for a bit of information...well then, the question would be answered differently by me.

I think that we need to bear in mind, as always, where a poster may be coming from when they ask a question, etc. Also...when we're posting, ensure that you give enough information to allow others to respond appropriately (i.e. so we don't use terms like neuromuscular blocking agent and acetylcholine when responding to a non-nurse).

Have a happy day folks :nurse:

well said!!!

how do we know that the OP is not someone who is perhaps somewhat interested in nursing as a career and the listed drugs are from her or a family member's surgery??? (or a TV show, for that matter)...

anyway, just as in nursing we must gear our teaching to our individual patients, here we must gear our answers to the one posing the question. We should not make assumptions as to the poster's abilities, motives or background.

allnurses.com may be found by anyone with the ability to search the net...indeed that is how I found it. There is no magic portal that limits it to only nurses and nursing students....therefore our comments and treatment of posters are out there for any who should care to come by and browse.

Let's please not shun people away because of their seeming lack of knowledge. We all had to start somewhere.

I agree, never take anyone elses word, look them up! You can google drug guides or drug books and come up with a number of reliable references. Best wishes!

Very true I should have noted why I was asking and where I was coming from, sheesh we really have to take alot from people on here. I am an EN student in Tasmania and I thank all the people who just helped in kindness and remembered what it is like to be the new person.

To the people who are rude or take the time make snide remarks I personnally hope that your bedside manner is far better. I did finally manage to find everything I wanted with some help from here and the web, most of these drugs were not even current 2005 medical books, too bad for me HUH.

Cheers thanks again

It definitely helps to know where the poster is coming from, whether it be a nursing/medical student or a lay person who wants to know how these drugs are used.

This reminds me of a case on another BBS. Let me state for the record, that I do NOT believe that this is the case of the OP in this thread, as I don't think that the person I am going to refer to is smart enough to cover his tracks. I truly believe that the OP is asking about these drugs for a legitimate reason.

That being said... there is case on another BBS in which a person claims to have gotten a hard drive from a rummage sale. On this hard drive are the medical records of what appears to be the owner's former patients. So, this person (a registered sex offender, no less  ) goes into the medical forums and posts medically transcribed records (meant for another doctor) about a person's history... he even includes the person's full name, DOB, etc. He's asking questions about the pts condition, what causes the disease, things like that.

Needless to say, the moderators on that board immediately remove the person's name from the posts and ask the person to delete all medical records he has on his hard drive. From what I understand, I believe that the local police are involved. This is such a blatant disregard of HIPAA. And pretty scary, I might add. I do hope that they are able to secure those records lest an unreputable person finds those and continues to do the same thing. :o
