Hiya
I just found this forum after a search. I am not a nurse (Sorry!) but my sister is training to be one and at the moment she isn't very happy doing it and doesn't sppear to be suceeding.
She says she is being bullied by her mentor, for example, when she was assiting a man in a hospital placement, he soiled himself and she cleaned up his mess. She was shouted at for doing this first and not helping the man. The next day, a similar incident occurred and she was scolded for not cleaning the mess up straightaway.
What advice would you give her?

These things happen. There are always those who have different priorities and they are always right! ( or at least they think so) Tell your sister that for everyone of "those" there will be a wonderful nurse that is willing to help in anyway she can and to give advice in a constructive manner. Good luck to your sister. I think she is lucky to have such a caring sister.

I am student as well, I have had HORRIBLE teachers and GREAT teachers. You have to learn to undure the awful and hold on to the great. The kind and encouraging words I have had from wonderful instructors have gotten me through the yellings and sometimes public scoldings from others. Tell her to hang in there it is really worth it. And remind her to hold on to the kind words she gets from others. Every time someone gets on my case about something, I remember what those kind people have said, its my life raft.

Just be a sister, listen and don't judge. There will be bad and good times. Don't know the cercumstance with the pt's. I don't know but it may be a critical thinking issue. What type unit is she in now ?
