can an rgn qualified nurse take the crne?

Published

I hold the RGN qualification which I obtained in the U.K. in 1992. I have experience but no degree as yet! Can I sit the crne in any of the canadian provinces at present or would I need a degree in nursing?:) I am thinking of doing health visitor training which would give me a BSc (Hons) qualification. Can I sit the crne without any previous work experience obtained in canada?

You would need to contact the college of nurses in the province in which you wish to work(there is a sticky at the top of the Canadian Forum about these) and have your education and experience evaluated. Most of the provinces are now requiring BSN for licensure as an RN but I believe they evaluate on an individual basis. Canadian nurses are generalist trained and you would need theory and clinical hours in all areas including peds, mental health and maternal /child. Best of luck.

Welcome

As mentioned you will have to apply to the province you wish to work in and they will make a determination depending on transcripts and what information you provide

Thank you for the advice!
