I am coming over to Florida from the UK to do my NCLEX next week and I have already had a tentative offer of a Job on a Med/Surg Ward.... what I would like is what you think would be a good book to get to help me understand Med/Surg - diseases/procedures etc! Something that I can refer to if I come accross something I am unsure about...All I have at the moment is NCLEX books and my UK books which will be no good to me over there (NCLEX books I dont want to look at again presuming I pass...LOL and my UK books are ok but I need a good american book)
Thanks in advance...

I'll post after Thursday when I go back to work, as I have a real good one at work that I like.
In the meantime, I do like the "Incredibly Easy" series of books. I have the EKG one (which someone lifted from work) and one for fluids and electolytes. I haven't seen the med-surg one though, so can't vouch for it.
Thanks 3rdSHiftGuy,
I have a couple of the "Incredibly Easy" books too (bought some while we were out there in April). I have got the ECG, IV , and Diagnostic Tests too. They are really nice books too and as things are slightly different here in the UK they certainly help...
I look forward to hearing your suggestion after thursday (please post before sunday though as I leave on sunday for Florida!!)
Thanks
Will do. I'm posting so I can subscribe to this thread to remind me! Where in Florida are you going?
Thanks ,
I have a house in Davenport and have an interview in Deland up to now, I am also going to try for the Heart of Florida in Davenport.
Up to now, I dont know where else to try al though I think a small hospital would suit me better as I have been out of the acute area for 10 yrs....!!
Did you remember 3rdshiftguy to look up that book...LOL?

There are plenty of good reference books and I'm sure you'll find one that suits your needs just fine.
It's a gorgeous time to come to Florida. Sunny, warm perfect weather (of course for you it might be too hot. LOL), lots to do and see. It's my favorite time of year!
Enjoy!

Just ordered and received this one in the mail today ! Great book !
I used several of their other ones while in school, and loved them !
Now I'm going to bury myself in this one until I'm the BEST med/surge nurse on the planet !!!
Hey... wonder if they put out a "procedures" one?
Any recommendations for a great "nursing procedures" book with lots of good pictures and descriptions? (strictly PROCEDURES, now)... I love my medsurge book from school, but it weighs a TON and I want one more just for procedures only.

I bought mine from http://www.half.com , but they have it at Amazon as well. If you find it used, you can score it for a pretty good price. I paid $15 for mine.
