Can NPs do bedside nursing?

Published

I'm just curious, could an NP also work as an RN? I know they are liscensed as an RN, but there have been lots of threads lately about RNs or LPNs wanting to know if they can practice as CNAs, and the general consensus has been no. I realize this is difference, but if an NP wanted to work PRN as an RN would they be able to do that?

A lot depends on how long you've been a bedside nurse. An RN who has been working for 20 years will probably take a paycut as an entry level NP. Generally speaking, though, an NP's salary tops out a lot higher than an RN's.

You do bedside nursing, however, if you make a mistake, you will be held by the state to the standard of your highest level of training.

So you will be held to the NP standard even if your primary function in a facility is working as an RN.

Every single NP who I've worked with says the same thing. They do it for the money. They make more money bedside.
