I would try it...if you're having a difficult time getting a job, see what happens. They may pay you at the rate of a medical assistant, but you can see what happens. At least you'll gain SOME experience rather than none at all.

Convince someone to hire you for the position and yes, you can work. Technically medical assistants can be people who are hired off the street and trained by the doctor they work for. In this respect, there is no reason why a doctor can't hire an LVN off the street and train that person if necessary.

Yes, an LVN can be employed as a medical assistant with the proper training. You might have to learn some additional skills that are frequently performed in medical offices such as obtaining EKGs, blood withdrawal, etc.

In the area where I live, the doctors' offices will frequently advertise for an "LVN or MA needed for busy medical group..."

I used to work at a doctor's office as an LPN, alongside several MA's. We all had the exact same roles. The MA could do exactly everything I did at the office and we got paid pretty much the same too. The pay was very lousy, but experience is experience and that's what I needed at the time. That was my first job as an LPN. I learned so much at the office. EKG's, phlebotomy, holter monitors, lab work. It was fun. But in the long run I quit because the pay was too low and I felt as though I could be doing more as a nurse.

I think pretty much any dr. office would hire an LPN for a MA job, but most will prob. not want to pay you too much more.

Good luck!
