Can LPNs work for Physical Therapists?

Updated:   Published

I wanted to know if I can work for physical therapists? Is there anything I would need to do like a certificate or anything to be able to do this?

Work for them as what? An assistant? Where I work the PTAs aren't nurses but rather people that have taken a PTA course.

You can get hired as an entry-level rehab tech in order to work for a physical therapist. However, the pay is low and you would not be working within the nursing scope of practice.

As the previous poster mentioned, you can complete a physical therapy assistant training course and sit for the certification exam to become a certified physical therapy assistant (CPTA). This training program takes two years.

You could also secure employment at a rehab hospital as a staff nurse where you and the therapy team (PT, OT and ST) will be working in collaboration to restore patients' level of function.
