Can I stretch my shoes? If so how?

Published

I bought a pair of Laundau nursing shoes and they seem okay except the collar is a little tight and that is the only thing about the shoes that hurt. I cannot take them back. I don't know what the material is. I think it is synthetic. Has anyone had any success at stretching shoes like these? If so how? Thanks!

Not sure if it works with all materials, but sometimes saturating the tight area with KY jelly and then wearing the shoes for a couple of hours will stretch them out.

I have my mothers feet, not literally of course, and have used the commercial shoe stretchers with limited success. I recently came up with something that works better. I took a 3/4 inch thick board and traced my feet on it, cut out the pieces with a sabre saw and slightly rounded the edges with an electric sander. Slipped cotton socks over these and applied leather stretcher to areas where stretching was needed and jammed them into my new shoes and let sit overnight. I was very pleased with the results and know you will be too. Yes, I'm a guy, but we are nurses and handle so many pieces of equipment at work that the saw and sander will be easy no matter what your gender. I found the leather stretcher on line. I recommend drilling a one inch hole near the heel area of the inserts to give you something to grab onto when removing them from the shoes.

A professional shoe repair store should be able to stretch the collar easily. I assume the collar is the part that goes over top of foot where shoe opens up for foot.
