Hello allnurses.com... I need some critical advice! I finished nursing school in 2009, sat down to take boards and I was so nervous so of course I failed.. I lived in VA, but now in NC & want to know if I have to retake the PN course to sit for the boards again since its been 5 years..? And if not, can I take refresher classes now to help me pass the boards? I also want to back for RN! Please help!!!

Moved to a thread on it's own.
Have you asked the state BON what they require?

Agree with above poster. The BON of either state VA or NC can advise you. You may have to test in VA and apply for licensure in NC. Also check the BON website in MN. If memory serves, they allow special exceptions.
Also, a refresher course would be very helpful because of the length of time since graduation. Best of luck!

There have been changes to the nclex so definitely invest in a refresher course and studying. As PPSs said check with your BONUS it's different state to state. Good luck!

YES, YES, AND YES....did I stress that enough? Take a refresher course. Some community colleges that have nursing schools offer a refresher in Med-Surge, I will also add that taking in addition a Kaplan course to prepare you for the NCLEX will also be wise. Yes, these two courses will cost you money, but because it has been so long it will prepare you better for you to succeed this time.
Good luck, and please tell us how it went.
