You can attend two CA cc at the same time and have the credits from one transferred in to the "home" school of your choice. That information (choice of home campus) is made on your SIS profile page. However, on the page that lists the grad requirements, it warns that one much check this info out. For example Chem 001 at cc X may not be considered equivalent to Chem 001 at cc Y, even though they are numbered the same and have the same catalog description. One would expect all Chem 001 classes at all campuses of the CA cc system to be the same, not necessarily so. This information can be found in the catalogs which are published on the net.
Yes, you can take your prerequisites at most any California Community Colleges wherever you can get a spot. Just make sure to ALWAYS check either w/ ASSIST or the counselor/advisor at the college you plan to attend at to make sure it transfers to the CSU Nursing program you want to apply to!!!!!
Currently, I"m taking prerequisites at 3 different community colleges. The other semester, I had 4 different colleges going on. Yes, sometimes availability is just better in other areas compared to the areas you're in.
FYI: The Los Angeles Community College District has 9 different community colleges and I've always had luck getting classes through there in the past -- and I live in Northern California. I don't even have great seniority there either! Since you're in the general area, apply to one of them and then you'll have access to all 9 colleges! They have tons of online classes to fulfill those pesky classes like psychology, sociology, communications, etc..
Good Luck!
Yes, hopefully by next year. I'm mainly focusing on the Northern CA area since that's where I live.
But, yeah.......try to get classes where you can. A lot of times if you depend on just one college, you'll end up wasting a lot of time waiting because classes fill up fast when you're low man on the totem pole.
Citrus College, is somewhat smaller compared to other colleges like the ones in the L.A. district. I would even suggest if the commute won't kill you, might even consider taking some in person classes at one of them if you need to (Anatomy, etc..).
Just most importantly, always check on ASSIST if it transfers. I actually encountered one odd communication class where it transferred, but only if I took it at a particular college within the L.A. district. This is just an odd situation, but good thing I checked because had I taken at some other college, I would've been out of luck for what I needed it for.
Always check, double-check, and triple-check!
Good Luck!
Yeah, I was looking at the SDSU website, and it said that it was harder for people to transfer into their program/school if they didn't do CC in their local area. It's pretty crazy.
But the good thing is that majority of the cal states I'm looking at generally all have the same pre-requisites, which is nice!

Hi everyone.
After a whole year of being a bio(pre med track) major at a big UC school, I've decided that it was not meant for me as I simply did not have the passion for it.
I am now following my original goal of being a nurse, and is currently looking at Cal States and their nursing programs. I would like to drop out and start clean at a CC because:
1. There are no classes at my school that are transferable to cal states
2. My school has made a rule saying that I cannot retake a class unless I got a C- or lower, so I cannot raise my science gpa.
That being said, when I was looking at assist, I've noticed that some of the cal states pre-reqs are not all available in the CC I plan to go to, Citrus College. So I was wondering, if it's acceptable for me to go to two CC at the same time or just go to two CC in general to check off the pre-req list? Or do they only accept going to one CC only to do all the pre-reqs?
Thank you!
