i do not think you will find any difficulty...........

You have abundance of clinical experience, and nursing......... you will work circles around ...

You are quite marketable, espec. the Fla. Market..... We also have the ability to do some work for years after the "normal retirement age" safely......

I am almost living proof, grins,,,, but have several "more senior" nursing friends that are quite capable, and work as much as they want...... ONE IS 78yr. in Woodville Texas....... :yeah:

Few of us plan to retire at 62 - that's just too young - lol.

I had no trouble finding a job as a NEW grad at 55. I had two offers on the same day. I work at a large level 1 trauma center which is also a teaching hospital. They would grab you so fast your head would spin at my hospital, unfortunately we are not in Fl. I bet if you go toward the large public hospitals you will find what you want. Also, DO NOT sell your self short. Ask for the salary your experience deserves. Good luck to you.

HI Mahage I am a new graduate at 53--do you think I will have a hard time getting a position? I graduated a few years back but I couldn't go into nursing right away because of pension issues with my other job. Just finishing up a refresher course that I felt I needed but I will be considered a new grad since I never used my degree. I graduated with honors while I worked my other job just so I could retire and do nursing which I have always wanted to do.

I am so afraid that being older with no nursing experience and this recession I will not land a job. I want to work a level 1 trauma teaching hospital too--do you think I have a chance? Where do you work at?

Specializes in IMCU.

I know a lot of people are having a much harder time now than they were two years ago. I suspect it will depend on what is going on in your area. I have heard that if people are willing to take a job in LTC and rehab they do not generally have a hard time getting a job. I have also been told that their are definately openings in Dialysis.

I wouldn't spend time worrying, I would just get my resume together and get out there and sell my strengths. It is important to be in as good physical condition as possible and just be realistic. Know that the learning curve is gonna be steep, but there is no reason you can't do it. I am in Tennessee.

Take care,

Mahage
