Only a few states in USA require a local license from PI before you can sit for NCLEX.
Illinois does not require it, and you don't need a Social Security Number either for initial licenses...
Here is the website:
always check with the board of nursing for the best information.

according this documented dated 02/26/09

part ii--enter all applicable information requested. on number 3, social
security number is mandatory.
my understanding it is needed,
I am curious why would they put SSN manditory and then issue a license? I see old threads from 2006 stating they would issue a license without SSN, but the PDF I posted was from 2009.Thanks
No clue Alex,
that's written on that application packet , SSN is mandatory if you have one. I don't know either why they issue a license first and then apparantly refuse the renewal without SSN. With ongoing retrogression makes no sense to me.

Because of the many Visa offered by the USA.
It is possible to have all your paperwork completed and sit for NCLEX outside of USA, and once you arrive in USA you get your Social Security Number and then submit it to the Board of Nursing.
thanks! SSN is the least of my problem coz I have ssn already. My problem is the Philippine license that is being required by Illinois coz I also have friends who took the NCLEX and got their license here without phil license. I don't know if this has been the rules here eversince or is it been change lately that they now require phil license. Please help....
I honestly don't know what you want, I told you how it is, we cannot change the rules. If you're eligible to take NLE in the Philippines you have to do it. That's it. What is the problem?
The only exception is normally only for american citizens who cannot take NLE, but from your comments I assume you could take NLE, just don't want to do it.

I get what you mean 5cats and I've read the packet couple of times already. All I'm asking is if their are other alternatives that I can do that maybe somebody did when they apply here in Illinois coz I know there are somebody who said that Illinois doesn't require Philippine license and their are also nurses who had been issued license here without having Philippine license. Some said that untill now that is still the case here so I assume that maybe they know something.I am already here in Illinois so I might as well take advantage of the situation. I just want to be sure that I do the right thing before jumping to another situation that is not necessary. Why do I have to go back to the Philippines to take the NLE if there are possibilities that I can be licensed here anyway???
