Can a hernia be considered a hemrhoid and vice versa?

Published

The definition of a hernia is a protrusion of an organ or tissue through a hole or opening into a body cavity where it does not belong.

A hemorrhoid is created by swelling and inflamation of the blood vessels surrounding the rectum.

Just wondering what you think. :yeah:

I've never considered a blood vessel an organ...:) Part of a system, yes :)

Also, hemorrhoids go OUT of a body cavity :D

never feel like an idiot, even when you have experience - you will still have questions or thoughts that need to be clarified :)

A hemorrhoid is a varicose vein of the rectum/orifice. They may or may not protrude out of the body (internal hemorrhoids stay inside the rectum.

Hemorrhoids carry an increased risk of thrombosis or hemorrhage, whereas hernias carry an increased risk of necrosis due to restricted blood flow.
