1. Start by making a list of the psychiatric hospitals in your local area. If you are willing to relocate, look through the entire province or even the whole of Canada.

2. Also make a list of the regular hospitals too, as they may have psych units.

3. Look up those hospitals online (or call their HRs) to see if they have any job openings. If they do, apply.

4. If you have friends/family working in these organizations, ask them if they know of any openings. Nothing wrong with a little networking :)

5. You may also want to consider joining professional organizations such as ISPN (International Society of Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurses) for more networking opportunities.

Good luck!

When you do your job search, you might want to look for 'psych nurse' jobs and not 'psyche nurse' jobs and you may find more results.

As per the Merriam-Webster dictionary, the definition of psyche is "the soul, mind, or personality of a person or group". The correct terminology for an nurse who works in psychiatric care is a 'psych nurse'.

Where do you live? San Antonio has a new facility opening and there is also one in Austin opening. I work for a facility in the area and we need Psych nurses.

When looking for psych nurse jobs online also use the key words "behavioral health" and "mental health" nurse.

I work at St. Alexius Medical Center (www.st.alexius.org) in Bismarck, ND (www.bismarck.org) and we are currently looking for psych nurses! I love my job and the company I work for and would highly reccomend it as a place of employment! We have a 25 bed inpatient psych unit with 16 adult beds and 9 adolescent beds.

I live in a very rural area and the closest psychiatric hospital is almost 200 miles away. There is a small mental health tele medicine clinic that is staffed by an R.N and a counselor. I really want to get into psych and currently I am unable to travel far for psych experience so I called the local clinic to inquire about internship/volunteer positions. I hope that I will be able to get my foot in the door in psych nursing. I have done med/surg and I want to do psych nursing now. Rural areas are hard up for psychiatric staff and patient resources and where I am a paid position is not currently available.

I happened upon my psych nurse job on accident due to applying via craigslist. Many psych facilities don't "advertise" the fact that they are psych facilities.

I drove past my work several times looking for jobs and didn't really know that it was a psych facility.

Find out what the psych facilities call themselves in your area. It varies by locale. Mine is called a "puff" (PHF) and behavioral health. Others are called "county facilities".
