I am trying to think of good nursing interventions/ actions to promote good nutrition for a family on a budget. Tell me if I am going in the right direction please or tell me why I am going in the wrong direction please. I have Risk for altered nutrition less than body requirements, Knowledge deficit. I don't know I am stuck.

How do you know if they have knowledge deficit? Look at the whole picture- if they have less than body requirements, WHY? What are the signs that point in that direction?
Is this for an actual patient, or a very broadly questioned assignment?

Hi, I think you need to elaborate more. You said some diagnosis, but I'd like to know the evidences for it. Also, sounds like you're stuck, I suggest that the family needs to be interviewed some more.

Thread moved for best response.
Care plans are al about assessment of the patient. There is not enough evidence here for us to help you.
Tell us about your patient.

If this is a general assignment without any actual family involved, you could probably get away with saying something like, "Making any nursing diagnosis requires assessment of the individual family. Assessing for the following nursing diagnoses (with defining characteristics and related factors) should be considered when planning your interactions with the family."
Then you're pretty free to list some (with their related factors and defining characteristics), say a little bit about how these circumstances might have come about for any given family, and what actions you would apply to address them.
If this is a real family with whom you have interaction, then you have to do those assessments yourself. :) Pull out your NANDA-I 2012-2014 and thumb through it, paying attention to the list of nursing diagnoses in each section that appears on the section's first page, and see what comes to mind. Don't have the book? Get it stat; it's irreplaceable. $29 at Amazon c free 2-day delivery, and $25 for instant delivery to your iPad or Kindle.
It's for an assignment that's all the information that I have. I have been looking at Mosby's and my Nursing diagnosis book. That's why I am stuck. I see some categories for identify resouces etc, provide mobile meals, refer to food banks...Risk for altered nutrition would work I guess if they only have a certain amount of money. I would identify food that would be of nutritional value within their financial budget.
I sort of think it's a good question. I work in homecare and I have a lot of families that are on budgets or food stamps, it is a valid issue. So how would you diagnose something like that. Just that information.
I hate these kind of assignments. I mean out a little effort at least and give a family scenario how hard can that be? I would say think of your present family that use food stamps.. You are on the right track. Knowledge deficit is a good place ....fast food is tempting. It readily available and cheap. ineffective Health maintenance would be another using lack of finances and fast food as an example. is there obesity in the family? that could be another.
Here are some resources I dug up for nutrition and assessment of needs

I gave you the information of how to get your answer-- YOU get your NANDA-I 2012-2014 and learn by using it. YOU would make a nursing diagnosis by assessing the family and seeing which related factors apply to them, then which defining characteristics. YOU need to look at those in the book to see what is appropriate. No, I am not going to give you the answer to your homework, none of us are. Use the book. You'll need it for the rest of your education anyway. :)
Do let us know what you end up with!
This is another one that has no real patient the assignment is about the question only
good nursing interventions/ actions to promote good nutrition for a family on a budget.
Teachers preach and preach about care plans being about the assessment...but then they give no assessment nor do they even require or suggest to student the real resource they should be using. It baffles me.
I didn't want the answer I just wanted to know if I was going in the right direction I looked up many categories and I noticed there isn't just one for; impaired finances related to the economy as evidenced by family is on a budget. Or one for knowledge deficit related to how do I buy nutritional meals as evidenced by we are on a budget. I get A's on my care plans and I enjoy writing them. I like to ask more experienced nurses if I am going in the right direction. I am actually trying to learn. I also have care plan books and three nursing diagnosis books. all of them are the current edition. ESMEE/ GRNTEA thank you for always being available to help me by explaining what is actually wrong. This is another website that I have MyPlate.gov “The3 P’s – Plan, Purchase, and Prepare Food on a Budget”. I do love my actual NSG DX. book it's more specific than Mosby's. I think what I am also asking is can you use different diagnosis if only a portion of what you need is there? There isn't just one dx that addresses a budget, it's included under Related Factors for example Nutrition less than body requirements under related factors; insufficient finances. (budget).
there is one about family finances strain though. maybe Ineffective Coping?
I still go with the deficient knowledge regarding resources available.
