Hi Dcmom. I passed nclex last month for another state (still waiting for my license information) to work on my endorsement in California. Basically, I don't have a California RN license now and I am thinking of working as a CNA or Medical Assistant while I work on my endorsement. I read that we don't need to undergo training for CNA, but need to fill up a form and meet certain requirements then they will inform us if we're qualified to take the competency evaluation. I don't know with being a medical assistant.. been doing a lot of internet search but could not find an answer. Do you have an idea about it?
btw, this is the site for CNA

Hope this helps. Good luck to both of us.

hi! ms.1, same thing with you, i did some research with regards to this matter but still unsure bout what and how it is gonna be for us foreign bsn graduate so i figured out calling mainly the california public health to finally get the right info whether if i need to take the course or not.. heres what i found out . If you graduated 2 yrs. or more from a nursing program and did not practice it after attaining your degree , granted you are a bsn holder or an you have to go take the cna course before taking the certification test.. So in my case i would have to take the course since i graduated way back 09' but if youre a recent/current graduate then you may take the certification test without taking the cna short course. hope that helps!:) by the way congrats on passing the rn!!! im happy for you and your family.
another thing ms.1 i have no idea about medical assistant but i know one doesnt need to be certified to work as ma, and about the cna i advise you to call coz your situation is quite diffrent from mine since you already got your rn license you might not need to take the course i assume .. but try give them a call to be sure coz you said you took the boards on a different state right??? may i ask where?
