Does not exist in Texas?

Just wondering, my wife school where she went to nursing school would not allow you attend school if pregnant, and a pregnancy test was part of each semester enrollment for her.

you cannot be expelled due to pregnancy. however the board of nursing states to sucsessfully graduate from a program you must have a certain amount of hours. so any time missed for delivery/complications is ok as long as you haven't missed too many total hours. as class hours and clinical hours are a texas board of nursing requirement, my school states that they cannot work with you if you miss too much and then you will be forced to withdrawal.

My school only allowed two missed clinical days which had to be made up. So it wouldn't take much to be dropped from the semester, if not the program, if one didn't time their preg problems well. We had several pregnant students; don't remember any of them having any problems. It still would be better to time additions to the family to arrive during the summer break or after graduation.

Although I would agree that this would be illegal in the States, I work with many nurses from Nigeria that have told me the same thing about their nursing school rules (in Nigeria). Pregnancy was not allowed, and even being married during nursing school was highly frowned upon. They have all been surprised to learn that you can attend nursing school in the US, be pregnant or become pregnant, and not be thrown out on your ear.

I agree, My wife was surprised you could attend being pregnant.

A nursing school in her area would not let you attend if you had bad acme or became overweight.

Different rules for different countries.
