Can you check if someone is using YOUR LICENCE?

Ok, so I just read a post about Craigstlist and a weird job/interview process, and I got a little scared.

Not solong ago, I was interviewd and offered a job at a Palliative Care place. The position was per-diem. They said they'd call me as soon as they got a new case, so they could teach me the initial interview process, but they have not called me at all.

I wasn't worried, and I even forgot about them. Until I read that post today.

They've got all my information since I completed all the paperwork for a new hire. Now I'm worried. Can they use my RN license? I know for sure I have to run a check on my SS# because that could get me in serious trouble if they used it. But how can I find out if my license has been used?

Any thoughts?

Seems to me this is something you would have to find out through inquiry with individual employers or by contacting the board to find out if there have been complaints. I would contact the board with your concerns. If there have been complaints against your license, you are to be notified. There would be a reasonable assumption that your license remains clear if you have received no official notification of problems.

In most states, anyone can look up a license number on the state's BON website...and you don't need much more than part of a person's name. That being said, it isn't likely that they are using your license, as facilities often require multiple forms of ID before hiring someone, as well as running background checks, getting fingerprints, etc. on the applicant. Someone can't just show up for a job with only your license number and expect to get hired.

Of course, that doesn't mean it's not possible that your license is being used...just not probable, IMO. But there are all kinds of people out there :( If you are concerned, you can always check your license's status with your state BON.

If you think they might be using your information ss number and nursing license and your name to work as a nurse, then you can possibly just go to the unemployment office. The unemployment offices can do a database search on your social security number to see if its registered at a place of employment other than where you are working at now. By law as soon as your job of employment obtains your tax forms then your entered into a state wide employment registry with the employment security commission. I would check with them, its better to be safe than sorry.

Eventually it would come to light, but probably not unless there was a problem. The social security route would probably be faster. And, if this IS happening, be sure to contact the credit bureaus for reporting ID theft. It's a pain in the butt, but necessary. There is a single number (google 'repairing identity theft' and see what you need to do). I had to go through the bank part since someone tried to buy airline tickets to Abu Dhabi..... as if I know anyone there .... I don't go out of TOWN !!!

I replied to an ad looking for RNs for a hospital in the Middle East. Before they would send any more information, they expected me to send them a copy of my driver's license, nursing license,AND a passport size picture. It sounded too hinky.
