Can anyone tell me about Touro ?

Published

Hi everyone,

I've been thinking about applying to Touro after the completion of my A&P prerequisites. I've heard it's a bit expensive and only provisionally accredited but have also heard some great things. Can anyone let me know a little bit about the program. How are the instructors, is it a relatively difficult program. Any information will be helpful.

o ok...so I guess I shouldn't feel too bad about not participating. what's your class schedule like? clinical schedule? do you (or any of your classmates) work while in the program? do u think working while in the program is wise?

o, and what about financial aid...has that helped you out significantly or have you mostly relied on loans?

Thanks A LOT for your help!

i went for the interview for the next class coming in july and the faculty made the program seem very very difficult.... i completely understand that going to school "nursing" will be hard but they said like about 10-12 hours a night of reading, which i don't mind reading if i am reading for a reason. tests every thursday and or fridays, they just made it seem impossible practically... like they wanted me to think it was too tough or either really good? it's not like i am not prepared for a tough program or nursing school, but i just would like a students point of view toward the whole academics work load class scheduling, and curriculum in all. i heard touro likes to change the schedule like every other day... that is what a do student told me i wouldn't know if it was for the nursing program as well. i would say i am a b student, and i wouldn't want to turn into a c, because i couldn't handle the program specifics, you know what i mean...? how many have dropped or needed to leave the program if any for academic reasons?? they kind of put a stigma on the program i guess, for me... i feel wary of it, a little. thanks for any info.!

Fem i completely agree with you. they did make it seem as though there would be A LOT of reading. did they mention class schedules or hours to you? i'm lookin for apts out there now and wanted to know how far is too far, esp if we're gonna have super early classes.

are u discouraged from going now or did you just want the insight to be better prepared?

i'm hoping any current/past students can share their experiences so we can know if it's as tough as they make it seem...

hi-

so you are going to accept your acceptance from touro? that is nice we are going to be class mates. yes basically i would like current students to give some information about the program that will help set minds eye at ease, you know... i am not too discouraged about the program, it was my first choice and i am enthralled how things finally turned out in the end for me! presently i am just curious, i want to know everything, so that it can help prepare me mentally for what's about to come! keep in touch if you hear any news...please.

touro only starts their nursing program once a year so far... things may change by the time you need or want them to???

is it true that with a degree from touro university in las vegas, you can only practice in nevada state? i saw this comment on one of the forums and was really curious to know if this is true.

oh heck no you can take your nclex anywhere in the us, to become licensed after graduation. in my class right now just about 75% of it is from cali, a few from utah, colorado, new mexico....and so on; they have no intentions on staying in the great state of nevada after schooling... so that is false what you have heard, come here then go home or somewhere else! hopes this helps!!

I am agree with the previous post. The deal is some states doesn not allow you to practice these are only 1-2 states so no big deal. otherwise u can work anywhere in USA with degree from Touro.

i am thinking to go there for RN-BSN after i will complete ADN.

Hi- I'm thinking of applying to touro next summer. Ive read that they only have the ny state accreditation..what does that exactly mean?

(im israeli and currently living in israel)

Could you tell me more about the school??

Thank you so much

Hi to the Superficial poster- I also graduated from Touro Univ. Henderson in May 2008, we were the 2nd batch (accelereated BSN/ELM), if I'm correct your group is the third accelerated BSN -your group is not the first BSN, the first BSN/ELM started in 2005 about 8 people were in it. Now, they replaced the BSN/ELM for a 16 mos. BSN, when I was still in nursing school- it was dreadfully hard ( exams, 5-10 chapters per week, clinicals ), if I have to start all over again I would have gone to a 16 months BSN or a 2 to 3 year program. It went pretty fast, however, if you have a very high IQ it's okay learning in 1 year then 6 mos. for the master's program is not enough and unrealistic, but I'm glad I did it and passed the NCLEX-RN (it's all over). The staff at Touro are very helpful and nice, they will provide you all the tools you needed to pass the boards....It was a great program!!! Hey you can't buy time but depending on your financial situation....I wish all the best for the future nurses.....
