Hello,
Does anyone know where to look for more funds to pay for tuition? I am going to be attending Brown Mackie College in Northwest Indiana for the LPN program. I have applied for the Federal Statford Loan which that and my federal and state pell grants combined will only pay 85% of my tuition. I am looking for other alternative routes that I am not aware of to pay for the rest of my tuition. Thank you so much....

Have you checked out www.fastweb.com? It's a pretty helpful site.

Visit http://www.SallieMae.com for a hassle-free student loan with decent interest rates. It's worth looking into. I borrowed $20,000 for nursing school from SallieMae without much trouble.

Check out the CRNA forum, there's a very good thread about financial aid there.

I am also looking at going to Brown Mackie college. I am a stay at home mom with two kids so I will need major financial aid. When I filled out my fafsa forms they said my EFC was $2175. and that I was eligible for Fed. Pell Grants. Do you mind me asking what your money situation is and if you had a hard time getting enough help to cover 85%. Once you talked to the financial aid person at BM how long did you have to wait to find out what would be covered? Thanks!!

I was just at Brown Mackie last week and spoke with Cincinnati's f/a dept. The gal put my info. into the computer system and gave me facts right then and there, but she said that if I was definitely going to attend the program, that I'd need to come in one more time. I was feeling confused and stressed because it was really obvious that I would've incurred student loans, and I'm trying to get my college paid for with Pell grants because of our unemployment/financial situation.
Ivy Tech, on the other hand, said that I need to mail in the financial aid form to the Dept. of Education, and a response can take up to three weeks, at which time I could possibly qualify for what's known as a "special circumstance" financial aid.
Good luck! HTH

I went to VUJC and I am a divorced Mom of three laid off from Kimball and had no money to go to college. Luckily I had some and I mean some(Very Little) Money saved up. I used all my pell grants and any student loans I could get my hands on like Stafford loans and was very upset I wasn't going to make it through the nursing program without more money. Well someone in my class told me about WorkForce Development and I asked them what they could do for me and they paid for my tuition and books and gave me gas money to get back and forth to school which I lived 45 minutes away. I used my loan money for bills and applied for food stamps and Hoosier Healthwise for medical care for my kids. I was not employed anywhere and did not seek employment because Nursing school takes all of your time. I know food stamps sound terrible and I have never used them before this time but I had worked since I was 16 and I am now 39 so I believe I had paid into the system enough to get a little help while I went to school to better my life and the life of my children. I am now off of food stamps even though I don't have a job as of yet but I have moved in with my fiance`and am looking for a job now. Well! LOL I just gave you my life story! LOL Basically, Try going to your local WorkForce Development office and see what they can do for you! The program is there to help people attain their education to get a better job. They told me money sits there waiting to be used! Go use it! :wink2:

Lisa,
Do you have a contact number for workforce development? Also, do not feel bad about using food stamps, you have paid into the system for years. No reason to feel bad at all!

Hello HARRN2b, Are you living in Indiana? I am assuming you do, so here is a website I can direct you to to look up your county that you live in and see what they have available. Some people, and I hate to say this, but some may refuse to help. Say they don't know what you are talking about. I had that from my county I lived in which was Orange county. Well VUJC is in Dubois county and I went to that office which is located in Jasper, and they helped me 100%. They work in conjuction with VUJC. I know they also work with most other colleges here in Indiana. Well go here and see what they can do for you and don't take NO for an answer! Some of the workers there are not well versed in what is available to people. Either that or they are just plain mean, which I prefer being a positive person, would like to think the later! :nuke: I Hope this helps! :nuke: Let me know if this site don't allow websites to be posted OK! :nuke: http://www.in.gov/dwd/partners/workone_centers.html
