Hi, as a newly appointed moderator, I want to live this forum up a bit. I just resigned my position as a HH supervisor, to go back to the field.

I have been a nurse 20 years, 17 in critical care, mostly cardiac critical care, and the last 2.5 years in HH, or asthma disease management , which I also had to leave because I hated to be in a cube farm all day.

I still love HH, even though PPS is the pits, even though the OASIS would make good kindling for a massive bonfire, and even with all the rest of the paperwork, it is the most rewarding nursing I have ever done!!

PS, I went back to my former VNA who is now paying $30/hr, yes, you read that right, to work 3 out of 4 weekends. Since weekends work well for me, it's a good deal.

Let's hear from all the HH nurses out there. Out of all those registered members, there's got to be plenty of us on this BB!! :D

Do any of you home health nurses know of any PDA/Blackberry technology in use for inputing oasis data and care plans?
Preferred Home health in Texas uses PDA and the nurses love it.They dont have to go to the office to submit skilled nursing notes and if they're doing receritification some pt's data are already stored and can be retrieved so it saves a lot of time.

HI everyone, i am new to the site, been doing homehealth for the past 18 years out of my 30+ years in nursing, i have seen lots of change, i love home health, hope i never have to go back to the hospital....despite all the paperwork i still think home health is awesome. recently went from field work to supervisior and the most difficult part of my job is to realize that everyone doesn't take the same pride in their work as i do. Any suggestions.??!!

:caduceus: hi! i am a home health rn and love it! i am relocating to haywood county in a month and need a job. i have been a case manager for over 30 patients at a time, and it is very challenging and enjoyable. any ideas where there are any jobs available????

I'm a home health RN for the past year and I love it! I have a broad range of experience in the hospital, and was afraid I couldn't handle being "on my own," but this has been the best experience by far. I'm paid by salary rather than per visit. The company I work for will probably change that before long...

Hello...I'm new to this website, but an LPN for 22+ yrs. Lots of fields, m/s, gyn surg, office, burn unit, psych, wound care, ALF Adon, and the most loved and for the last 3 yrs HH. I am full time field nurse, paid per visit, and mileage. I am so fortunate in many ways, but it bugs me that as Primary nurse (not Cs. mgr) I get paid the same per visit rate as the new 1yr exp. LPN...I know we're all new once, but I bring a lot to the table, and I feel like I should be compensated a little for it. Please, tell me.....am I being unrealistic? I work for a national company, but each region has it's own mgmnt, then it goes to corp. So I can't ask about the pay rate for Primary nurses without figuring it'll go to the regional folks...and it would be a big issue there, and I'd probably be told to quit if I didn't like it.

She likes her "numbers" to look good, even if her employees aren't.

We are under paid mileage, compared to others in the area...and I have checked with the other co's and they don't offer the position I have to LPN's. I am in a rural area, so things are limited for me. Being a widow for 15 yrs it's a problem, as I have little resources to go back to school, they don't help with tuition, either. Hope I don't sound angry, I'm not...just curious as how it is out there for other LPN's in the field. If I am off base with my expectations I need to know that. Thanks bunches.

I just got my home health aide license in md,va and dc.and i just completed my cna certificate from my school..yet to take the cna board exams.am searching for agencies i can work with..other have been introduced to,are nothing to write about.Does any one have any hints of any good agency ,i can work with in md or dc?.

Hi I am an 8 year veteran to HH I love it I have been in supervision for most of those 8 years I was recently downsized from corporate DON to per visit casemangager. I am currently in negotiations with some others to open my own agency yes I know I am crazy. but I just want to see if I can create an agency that can really put patients and staff first

Hello- Congrats on your moderatorship I'm new to this forum as well as to HHN. I've been working the same HH case for the past 2 months. I enjoy it. I work full time at a hospital in transplantation. I took a part time job as an agency/home health RN to make some extra money. I really enjoy it. I've been working in pediatrics. I never thought I would work as a pediatric home health RN. It has changed me. Really pulls at your heart strings and teaches some really interesting things about life and your job. I've met some really great nurses as well as family members while doing this extra work. I wouldn't change this experience for the world. HHN's are special people.

I can't tell you the number of RNs at the hospital I work for tell me while frowning, "I don't know how you do it. I could NEVER do THAT." :o My response is, "I don't think about what I CAN'T do, I think about how I CAN help someone else who really needs my help." Because really? It's not about me....it's about the patient and the family that NEEDS YOU.

Hey all, New here. I'm a lowly CNA, are we welcome here? I work for a HH agency. I really enjoy my job. Not always thrilled with the agency. We, the agency just dropped all our public aid clients. This really upset the clients and I'm having a hard time swallowing it myself. Anyway hope to hear from someone soon. I'd like to use this site to learn and grow in my field.

Well first of all thank you to all for the posts about good and bad days in home health......i just returned from an interview with an agency that covers many counties in my rural area and am hoping that i can catch on to the *jargon* and get the paperwork sorted out and be able to complete it in a timely fashion so i can get paid.......

I have been in the hospital setting almost 30 years with a wide variety of experience and have no problem being on my own, but have always had the comfort of the hospital setting......i am hoping i catch on quickly and can get out there and see and hopefully help patients, as that is how i am going to make money being paid per visit........

so far the supervisor and her boss that i met have been cool and say they work with the nurses anytime they need assistance.....

i need to figure out how i am going to absorb and learn things quickly and not get overwhelmed.....never having worked for anyone but the hospital i am at since graduation......

i am excited about the challenge as i have not been working for almost 3 months.....so wich me luck and i will certainly read every post that has to do with home health asap......
