Calling all cnas! What are your cna pet peeves?

Voice ur pet peeves of cna work. This is a great spot to vent and let it all out

Hello Angelkat27,

During my clinical there was a new admit the night before and all he had was winter clothes and this was the dead middle of summer. From working in healthcare and knowing people that live in LTC, I know there is always extra clothes either donated or collected. What makes this situation worst is that he only spoke Spanish and no one on shift spoke any other language but English. So, the first day I was getting know who was who and who does what. The man did not eat anything the whole day nor wash up. I have a strong sense of smell, so, everything smells 10x stronger. Long story short, I can't take neglect. That night I when I got home I looked in my Spanish textbook, and translator online, and wrote down things that I would need to say to him. So, the next day I spoke very slow and showed him a wash cloth and soap, told him eat in Spanish, put a spoon back and forth from the food to his mouth, and asked the head nurse to get him some summer clothes.

The head nurse was so appreciative of what I did that she gave me another week of clinical and wrote a personal recommendation.

STINK SMELLS

Neglect

Abuse

Deplorable living conditions

Hi allied health. Good luck with ur clinicals you will b an awesome cna. That's wonderful u got the poor man some proper clothes a good washup and to get him to eat, kudos on learning spanish. I have a Spanish speaking resident who refuses to eat washup and we have Spanish speaking staff and she won't cooperate it took 3 cnas to clean her up full off poop yesterday, sometimes we have to call her family to help us. Her dementia is progressing to the point she wanders tries to leave the building and will refuse to eat and washup change clothes yes I hate neglect horrible living conditions in nursing home you will be awesome cna welcome to the cna world

Yeah I can't stand nursing home with the nasty pee smell, sticking 3 or 4 patients to a room with a jack and Jill bathroom ( a bathroom that opens up to next room of 2,3,4 patients ) beat up looking furniture floors walls malfunctioning mechanical lifts, one shower room to a wing of 66 patients. I worked in a facility of 66 beds and we only had one shower room for our 66 patients! I hate nasty neglectful lazy nurses and cnas.

And I hate lack of teamwork

My clinicals were last yr. I am working as a Cna now in a hospital.

Yes, I forgot the lack of teamwork definitely on my list of peeves. I have even more working at the hospital. My biggest one is those IV machines. They just let them beep for an hr before they do anything about them. When I was in the ER the nurses act like they couldn't check on the machine so the doctor waited 20 mins for one to come and see what's going on. So no one came, so, he showed me how the machine works and so on. Now I know what every button does but I will only press them in front of a doctor.

Hi, oh ok. That's good wow u got a job in a hospital after ur cna class that's awesome it's hard to get in hopsitals specially for new cnas, I wanna go to hospice or home care less drama too much drama in longterm rehab facilities hospitals

Oh yeah I hate drama lazy peeps asskissers the good cnas and nurses given a hard time and bad apples get treated well as long as they kiss ass. Favoritism is my pet peeve,

Well I came from home care and went to CNA. I work as a CNA for an hospital agency. I am looking to work as a permanent CNA but you have to do three months with the agency. When I did home care I did not like it. I thought that it would be more money in CNA but its hard to get a starting job. Everywhere want 1yr experience. The hospital is okay but they only pay for 7.5 hrs and home care pays the full 8. Where I work homecare pay more but I need the experience so I have to figure a way to work both places.

-CNAs who don't follow the guidelines for proper hygiene, i.e. not wearing gloves or washing their hands after patient care

-Call-ins on a regular basis

-CNAs who don't empty trash or leave bags of soiled briefs or pull-ups for the next shift to clean up.

-CNAs who don't clean residents up after a meal.

-Nurses who aren't willing to help in resident care.

-People who ignore sounding tab alarms.

Specializes in None.

Coworkers that let their call bells ring forever, and coworkers that come in late EVERY day at least 15 mins late. That's all I can think of.
