Having no ac in patient rooms, no gloves in resident rooms, fellow coworkers asking to help with lifts and their resident is not ready, coworkers going on breaks every five minutes and I have to take care of their residents.

I hate it when...
-I get called in to work for stupid reasons. Some (READ: BRAND NEW HIRE! She was literally on Day 2 of orientation.) girl called in because she "stubbed her toe." She was not limping and even showed it to me; it wasn't even red, swollen or visibly damaged. And get this... She said "hurt it." SWIMMING AT THE POOL, so it wasn't even work related.
Resisted the urge to call up the new clueless ADON, (who manages the call-ins) and tell her what morons they both were.
-When laundry and housekeeping are hanging out in the halls chatting up a storm en Espanol and there are no towels, bibs, sheets, or anything to be found. I'm fluent in Spanish and nothing that was said had anything to do with air fresheners or restocking the linen closet.
-Our Dietary department. They routinely make idiotic and dangerous mistakes, such as putting out those archaic metal hot plates under the meal trays or giving regular liquids to patients with dysphagia. Did their manager ever wonder what would happen if a confused resident decided to grab one of those hot plates? My coworker burned her hand on one. First degree, but my coworker is 25. What would have happened to 85-year old Mrs. X? Dietary also never passes trays and when I go in the kitchen what are they doing? Listening to the radio and talking about hot girls.
-Our administrator invites everyone to nursing staff meetings. I am not a member of nursing because I am not yet an RN. Why should I really bother with pain management and assessment? It's outside my scope, I have not been trained to react to patient complaints of pain and so all I can do is go tell the nurse about it and hope they'll do something about it.
-There is no Robo-Nurse (we call our VS machine that), which is always. How ridiculous is it that we have 80 beds and only one vitals machine? I can do everything but temp (no thermometers except on the RoboNurse) and O2 sat manually, but it is much more time consuming.
-People ignore isolation precautions. They must not understand that C. diff forms spores that can cling to pretty much anything and that's why we gown up.

I've done hospital and nursing homes for 15 yrs as CNA. Just started doing homecare. It has its good points and bad ..... Today was horrible day. My pt who really likes me when off on me today and got really mad at me .... and I didn't really even do anything. His brothers told me they don't even wanna live with him and he's a jerk. He seemed to be manipulative today , and his brothers said he's manipulative. Any tips from anyone ?

I spent 30 years in finance before researching my break through into Nursing. I started my prereqs at my local community college, took a paid CNA training course, got my CNA and BLS certificates, quit my job in mortgages making $33 an hour and started a CNA job in a longer term/rehab nursing home. I didn't think I was sensitive to smells but was proven wrong with this job. I was really shocked at the condition of the place. Coming from finance, the offices were beautiful and new. This nursing home was clean but so old, with broken equipment everywhere. I was also surprised that there was no air circulation system. At a nursing home one would think there was a system where smells were being sucked up into an air purifying system, but no, the stench of urine and feces just lingers in the air. I would go home with the smell of urine in my nostrils. I was also surprised by the people I began working with. A LOT of experienced CNA's do nothing and expect their "partner" to do their work for them. I understand the need for people to work together, but I cannot stand for lazy, entitled CNA's doing nothing while I do their work for them. A lot of these CNA's find ways to not be good CNA's.

I have a few pet peeves..
1) when 1st shift comes in clocks in @6am and they stay in the break room til 6:15-6:30. 2). Calls-ins every day by the same person
3) when the green staff assist light comes on and know come in so you do it yourself
4) when your assigned to the hall way and your hall party is no where to be seen or is talking on there phone. While your running around answering call lights
