Calling on California LPN's!

Hello everyone,

I am an LPN in Vancouver, BC who has been working 3 years in acute care (othopedic surgery, general surgery and sub-acute medicine)

I am seriously considering relocating to California (Pasadena area) and would like to get some feedback mostly on income. I currently am making approx. $50,000 with minimal overtime and would like to make at least that much in California.

I would be open to working in other areas and know that additional education may be necessary. Some of my areas of interests are: Dialysis, wound care, breastfeeding education, medical esthetics.

Would suggest you think about visa as I believe you need to be RN to get work permit allowing you to work. There are some threads in the Canadian forum discussing this

Thanks for your response, but I have dual citizenship, so a work visa will not be necessary :-)

Other than responses from people who are in the know, I would suggest you look at the major employment websites to get a feel for what is available. A good website is called http://www.indeed.com. You can also try http://www.monster.com and http://www.careerbuilder.com. There are also other nursing employment websites that can be found with a search on google. Good luck in finding good job prospects.

Then once you have completed requirements and passed NCLEX PN you are ready to go. Good luck and hope you find what you require and get where you want to get

In California we're called LVNs (not LPNs). :)

Thanks for the responses so far, I guess what I was looking for was more salary information...I looked on the bureau of statistics website and the salary range it posted was a little lower than I was expecting...that's why I was asking LPN/LVN's who are actually working in California.
