Calling ALL Southwest Tennessee Community College Spring 2011 Hopefuls!!!

U.S.A. Tennessee

Hi everyone. Now that the official October 15th deadline for submitting the application packet has passed, is anyone sitting on pins and needles like me?? I just learned that they would contact us via phone if we are accepted.

Does anyone know when they will start calling the people who are accepted? I tried asking the ever so pleasant lady  that answers the phone in the Nursing department and she didn't have answers to any of my questions.

To all of you that are waiting for that phone call, just as I, GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

If you selected Nursing as your major when you began school at SWTCC it will have nursing as your major, but that doesn't mean your in the program. The people who got in received a phone call and had to go down and sign their acceptance letters. I know that they sent rejection letters to those that didn't get in.

Nevermind...... Your talking about under the Programs: ........ that may be possible at that point. Good luck.

I think I'm just gonna sign up for the CPR class that the American Red Cross is having Dec 11th. It is called "CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and Health Care Provider or Lifeguard". It is $80 and it's also an all day class (8-5)...ugh.

Specializes in ICU.

I wouldn't do American Red Cross. If you have a clinical at Methodist Hospital, they won't accept ARC. You must have American Heart Association BLS! Southwest doesn't tell you this. I found out the hard way. Do yourself a favor and do the AHA now.

This is why I went with Heart to Heart. I did speak with one of the Foundations instructors who suggested the BLS certification. All of the hospitals accept the BLS (which does include CPR/AED certification) Now why this isn't stated in our acceptance package I HAVE NO IDEA!! That's why it is good to know people and to have access to this site. Thanks for pointing that out again scifihippie. Hopefully someone will listen and take heed to the advice from someone who has been where we are trying to go.

The acceptance letter says "You should contact the American Heart Association or American Red Cross to arrange to take the CPR/AED course for Professional Rescuers."

So you really think that the "CPR/AED for the profesisonal rescuer and health care provider" won't be acceptable?? I sure hope so cause I've already registered.

Because of the conflicting info about whether or not ARC certification is acceptable (mainly because the acceptance letter specifically said to use them), I went ahead and emailed the school about this to verify. To my surprise, she already replied this late. I was told that Methodist may not have accepted ARC then because it used to only be a 1 yr certification whereas AHA was for 2 yrs. Currently, ARC for professional rescuer is good for 2 yrs.

I was assured that for students, the 2 yr ARC professional rescuer course is fine for any hospital we do clinicals in. Phewww! :)

Has anyone done their drug screen? And if so, how long after completing the online form did you receive your information for the drug screen? It has been almost a week now and I still have not received my e-mail with the drug screening information?

I dont' know if you have already registered for your class or not but I just registered for an AHA BLS class for Dec. 4. It's from 8-12 on the U of M campus. It's only $50 and they have a couple of seats left. I registered on the AHA website and just got my confirmation e-mail.

Well, the place that did my drug screen said only the school receives the information, and I would not receive a notification of the results. I did mine last week also. I guess I will wait and see if they are correct or if I get the report back. My background check is finished though, and of course something that doesn't belong to me is on it, so now I have to keep on them to get that off my record

I pray I don't run into that issue! Good luck on getting it off...;) But I after I paid for my background check, it said that I would receive an e-mail in 24-48 hours with my drug test information and I still haven't gotten the e-mail so that I can take the test. How long after paying for your background check, did it take to get the e-mail regarding the drug screen?

I received the email within 24 hours, but it went to my spam folder, if you haven't gotten it and it's not in your spam folder, try to call the customer service number on their site and I'm sure they can help you with it. They have been very polite and helpful about my issue.
