U.S.A. Tennessee

Hi everyone. Now that the official October 15th deadline for submitting the application packet has passed, is anyone sitting on pins and needles like me?? I just learned that they would contact us via phone if we are accepted.

Does anyone know when they will start calling the people who are accepted? I tried asking the ever so pleasant lady  that answers the phone in the Nursing department and she didn't have answers to any of my questions.

To all of you that are waiting for that phone call, just as I, GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

I suspected they had accepted you given the male's orientation you were asked to attend, in an unofficial way, lol...
My thoughts exactly!!! Xander I knew you where in when you 1st posted on here months ago. Congrats again to everyone!!!! I am still walking around looking like :D

Me too! I was already in the good mood today and this little tidbit of unexpected good news just sealed the deal! :lol2:

Congrats to all of you! I'm about to finish the first semester. I will be SOOOOOO glad!! You guys get ready to study!!

Specializes in ICU.

Congrats everyone!

I'd advise to go early on the day they let you sign your paperwork acceptance. That is the day you sign up for classes. It's first come, first serve. So, if you want the 5pm or 7pm class or need a Sat clinical vs. Fri clinical, get there early to get your first choice!

So yeah.... I showed up bright and early to except my acceptance packet. To my dismay, I was rushed through the process as if I was at the DMV. I just can't get over these completely incompetent secretaries that work in the nursing department. However, even though I was rushed, I managed to keep my cool and decide on a schedule. I can already for see endless amounts of frustration when dealing with these people. I'm on a pell grant as well as scholarships, so I'm looking for an easy 3 hour class to bring me up to full time. I have no choice as it would severely decrease my award if I don't and I live off that money. If anyone has a good recommendation for a class of that nature I'd greatly appreciate it.

I felt the same exact way. I wanted to ask more questions but was told everything I needed to know would be discussed at orientation. So when we picked our class schedule, was that set in stone? Because I am hearing conflicting stories about the registration process now. But anyway....as far as an easy A, have you taken Intro to Personal Computing? You already know everything that is being taught in the class and it wouldn't take alot of your time.

Yeah they rushed me through too! It didn't take them long at all to knock the excited smile off my face. I'm not sure why I thought the nursing department would be any different from the rest of the Southwest staff. Oh well! It is what its is. As far as extra classes go, are you planning on doing a RN to BSN program any time in the near future? If so, I know U of M and Baptist both require some pre-reqs for their programs. I've already taken a few of the classes required by Baptist. That way when I decide to go back for my BSN I wont have to spend a whole semester (or more) taking world lits and philosophy, Blah! Just something to consider if you're going to be taking extra classes anyway. You can find the list of required classes on their websites, as well as which ones transfer from Southwest.

Thanks for the responses. I've already taken any and all prereq's that are listed as of now for both Baptist and U of M. I was trying to cover my bases for my RN-BSN. I wonder if Medical Terminology would do any good? Maybe some other course of that type?

Xander-One of my friends is taking Medical Terminology now at Southwest. I'll ask her if she recommends it. She was accepted for spring as well.

Also, does anyone know of a good place to take the CPR class? Other threads on here had outdated links.

Amy

@applejacks..... thanks.. I would like to know if she found that class helpful, as well as it's level of difficulty. I'm also thinking of looking into medical transcription and/or medical insurance claims. The medical terminology fits perfect for me in a free day slot. If it's not a difficult course I'll probably go with that one. Difficulty really isn't the issue as much as course load. Specifically writing papers. I'm sure I'll be doing plenty of writing in the nursing classes. I don't want anymore on my back lol. I've taken many paper heavy courses and done well, but if the truth be known, I hate writing papers. lol

I did my CPR training already, I used HeartStartCPR Plus, 901-854-7140, ask for Domonique. She is an RN and she has all the equipment you need right there in the class so you can practice the techniques. I had a private one on one lesson (same price as group) and I was done within an hour and a half.

Xander-She said that she has homework but it's easy. And the tests are 100 questions with 25 of them spelling. She's made A's on all of them. So I think it's safe to say...NO PAPERS!!! yay. I hate them too.

fleur-di-lis-RN2b-Thanks so much for the info. I'll call a little later. Anyone interested in doing a group CPR class?
