Calling ALL Southwest Tennessee Community College Spring 2011 Hopefuls!!!

U.S.A. Tennessee

Hi everyone. Now that the official October 15th deadline for submitting the application packet has passed, is anyone sitting on pins and needles like me?? I just learned that they would contact us via phone if we are accepted.

Does anyone know when they will start calling the people who are accepted? I tried asking the ever so pleasant lady  that answers the phone in the Nursing department and she didn't have answers to any of my questions.

To all of you that are waiting for that phone call, just as I, GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

As your foundations teacher will tell you, no one can tell you how to study. Scifihippie helped me tremendously with what books to buy for the first semester. She's (he's) right about the Doenges Nursing Diagnosis Manual. I never opened it. She told me to get Betty Ackley's Nursing Diagnosis Handbook. It's well worth the money. There's another care plan book that really helped and that was Sparks and Taylor's Nursing Diagnosis Manual. Both Ackley and Sparks and Taylor are not on the required book list. The study guide books that come with the Fundamentals and Med Surg books are not necessary, though some people found them helpful. The Fluid and Electrolyte test is the hardest (Test 3). I never even opened the required Fluid and Electrolyte book. I studied the Kozier and Erb book and the Med Surg book. I also bought Fluid and Electrolytes Made Insanely Easy by Lippincott. It explains things so you can understand. You will be listening to Fluid and Electrolyte lectures by Marlene Hurst. She is really good. Study her notes and listen again to her lectures. She has a pathophysiology book that some people bought that seemed to be helpful. I did well on the Fluids test, so I guess I did something right! You will need a good Lab and Diagnostic testing handbook. I bought the Davis Lab book. The best drug handbook is also the Davis drug guide. The Pharmacology book will be needed about mid term. That's when you start getting into drugs.

The Dosages class is a hybrid course. You will only be coming to class part of the time. You are pretty much studying on your own.

Hey if anyone still needs the CPR/AED through AHA I just took it tonight in the instructor's home. She was easy to schedule a time with, friendly and professional. It was only $50! Her name is Kimi Meza; home phone 901-854-6376 and her email is [email protected]. She lives in Collierville, but I think her availability overrides the distance for me.
Thanks for recommending Kimmie Meza. She was awesome!!! I loved the one on one interaction. If any of you haven't been certified yet, I would definitely recommend Kimmie.

Update cause I'm bored lol. TB test, vaccines, physical... CHECK ..... AHA BLS Cert... CHECK Background/Drug screen..... CHECK My sanity.... UNCHECK

Now all I need to do is panhandle change from now till orientation so I can give them the $100 bucks due........

Just took last final for first semester!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wooooo Hoooooo!!!!!!!!:yeah:

Congrats!! :yeah: So how does it feel to be going into the 2nd semester?? I know that there is a lot less anxiety and sense of feeling overwhelmed!! I took my last final Monday and since I have completed the checklist, I have decided to stop worrying about the upcoming semester as a new nursing student and just enjoy these weeks off!:hpygrp:

Yes, it feels SOOOO good just to sit and relax and not have any pressure and not have to THINK! They are already giving us material that we need to be doing over the break! Enjoy these next few weeks while you've got them! :uhoh3:

YAY!! It does feel good to sit and relax. I don't even know what to do with myself because my nerves has been so frazzled these last few months with studying, working, studying, no life, studying, working, studying, exam, studying, exam, studying, wondering wth I got myself into, then studying some more! After the last exam I went home and started studying LOL!! then it dawned on me that class is over, I passed!!
