Calling All CNA's!

Published

Welcome! I am the Moderator of the new CNA - Nursing Assistant Forum. I am also an RN who works in various health care settings. I have experience in Long Term Care, Home Health, and Hospital settings. I have been a Nurse since 1998 starting out as an ADN; I received my BSN in 2001.

I wish I had been a CNA prior to Nursing School; I know it would have helped tremendously. The jitters I encountered make me blush now. I remember not wanting to look at a wound for a new patient because I was "uncomfortable" lifting the covers and envading someones privacy! It is safe to say, "those days are over ;)"!

Please take a moment to introduce yourself. If you have time, grab your cup and tell us about yourself. Feel free to PM me if there are any concerns that are of a personal nature. Oherwise, post your conversations and questions here so we can all learn.

:welcome: Happy Posting!

Hey everyone! I have worked as an LNA (in NH our title is LNA instead of CNA) for about 3 years now. I work in assisted living/LTC.

I will be starting an LPN program August 31st. Can't wait. :)

I would eventually like to get my RN and work in either Psych or Pediatrics.

Specializes in Med-Surg/DOU/Ortho/Onc/Rehab/ER/.

Hey I am not a CNA yet but I am starting the program @ the end of the month!

Im looking forward to it!

Hi everyone! :) I'm Sylvia. I'm a CNA, and take the state test tomorrow to become an STNA (Ohio). I'm really really really nervous, but hope I pass! I'm currently a waitress.. and being able to get an STNA job while I'm pursuing my RN will really change my family's life. Glad I stumbled upon this site, and looking forward to meeting everyone!

Hi my name is Cathy I am a CNA for a year and half. I work in a LTC on Long Island NY. Started prerequisites for rn at SCC, but I am changing and getting LPN first.

Specializes in CNA.

Hi, Im John. I am a BNA (basic nurses aide) working in a LTC facility ... waiting to take my CNA test (& have been for over a month!!!) but I like being an aide for the most part, the facility I work out is pretty good compared to some Ive heard about. I am also doing an ASN prgram (just started last week). I hope to be an RN by Summer 2012!! 3 semesters and 15 weeks to go !! :yeah:

Hello John:

I think that you are not only very wise, but very much needed at any institution.

We desparately need CNAs in all places.

For the most part, they are the right hand of the nurse in charge there.

Most often the CNA knows more about the patients than the other nurses and is a most valuable member of the team.

I think that working as a CNA will be most valuable to you for excellent experience is gained by doing so.

If you are lucky you will see how important the team concept is and how valuable the CNAs are to the Nurses.

Gook luck and God bless...

hi to all i just want to know how to open care home in tx anybody can help? do i need to have big amount of$$ in order to have a care home

Hi my name is Eva & i,m a CNA-to-be cos i start class on d 21st of february after so much mind searching & questions. I,m excited as well as nervous cos this is just the begining on this long road of nursing career. I hope & pray it,l be worth it in the long run.......for everyone of us.

Thank you so very much for starting this Forum. Only nurses and other CNAs realize what CNAs do and how valuable a good one is.

I just got my license in AZ, second career for me, and having a difficult time without experience in a hospital or LT Facility experience to get a job. I have 2 years of home experience but that does not count. I could apply for jobs until the cows come home, or I have training in business, try to care for a client in their own home. Of course, non-medical.

Any feedback on this? Has anyone done it before?

Thank you very much and God Bless all Healthcare Workers.....
