Welcome! I am the Moderator of the new CNA - Nursing Assistant Forum. I am also an RN who works in various health care settings. I have experience in Long Term Care, Home Health, and Hospital settings. I have been a Nurse since 1998 starting out as an ADN; I received my BSN in 2001.
I wish I had been a CNA prior to Nursing School; I know it would have helped tremendously. The jitters I encountered make me blush now. I remember not wanting to look at a wound for a new patient because I was "uncomfortable" lifting the covers and envading someones privacy! It is safe to say, "those days are over ;)"!
Please take a moment to introduce yourself. If you have time, grab your cup and tell us about yourself. Feel free to PM me if there are any concerns that are of a personal nature. Oherwise, post your conversations and questions here so we can all learn.
:welcome: Happy Posting!
Hi , My name is Lori and I am a CNA here in Oklahoma. I am also a CHHA but I am not working yet. I am trying to get into an LPN program that starts this summer. Out of the hundreds of apps they get they only accept about 36 students so it may be a long shot. I just don't have many options being in a rural area like this. I have a big family and lots of responsibilities but I really want to be a nurse!
Hey yall!
This is my first post. I hope to use this wonderful site as a reference point when I get stuck. To introduce myself- I have been a NA for two and a half years, and a NAII for two years. I started NS in August, and I am now almost though first year! I've known all my life that my calling is to help others. I only have had long term care experience up until now; I have started working in NSICU. I love it!
Hey all! I just joined this site, after checking it out for quite awhile! I'm glad that we have a community of Nursing Assistants out there who respect their jobs even though in my opinion it is one of the hardest professions there is. I've been an aide for two years now, working in the hospital setting on a med/surg. floor part-time, and also worked my way up at a home-health agency from being a PCA to a HHA full-time. I love my job, kinda fell into this profession by accident, but i'm glad it's working out. I have no real plans right now for being a nurse (maybe an OTA) but it's something i'm keeping in my mind for the future.
Hi everyone,
I'm so grateful for this site and for those of you who share your experiences and feeling.Nightingale your article hit home with me about doing CNA before RN. I have all my prereq.for nursing.neverthe less doors haven't open yet! I enrolled in a CNA school today, and i feel good.
hi my name is clevian and i'm a male who has just passed his cna exam. i have completed most of my nursing school rn pre-reqs and now about to work as a cna. i have plans of working as a cna until i get my rn license. once, i get my rn license i hope to work a year in med/surg then branch off into working as a travel nurse seeing the world. after that i hope to maybe become a flight nurse. who knows but so far i love being a cna. it is making a major impact on my life. everyday i'm learning something new. i'm glad to be a cna!
I never really introduced myself....so here we go. I'm a CNA who will be applying to nursing school in August 2008 for the spring semester. There is a point system at this school, but I think - trust - I'll get in on my first try.
The moment I knew I was a real CNA? My first colostomy bag change. A tad whiffy. Survived and conquered.
Hello everyone! I am Teresa and just became a CNA officially three weeks ago! I have been working at a nursing home for just about two months now and am loving it! When I am not working at the nursing home, I am either driving a school bus or studying for the Associates Degree of Nursing program... yeah, I can spread myself pretty thin.
I look forward to getting to know you all and learning from those that were here before me!

Question regarding work history:
1 yr ago I applied & was working the next day as an adult sitter at a senior living facility w/no training or experience. I arrived very nervous about having to change this mans diapers. I figured out how to change him & techs would come in throughtout the day to have me hold his breathing treatments in for him among other routine things.
The girl that hired me said that if I had chemistry w/him to let her know and that she would put me on the schedule as his sitter. I did not call her for a week as I feeling terrible about being no training and it just felt wrong. I did not know what to do.
The next week I was called by the supervisor & he was yelling that I had not shown up to sit for the man that that day, but I never called & said that I had chemistry w/him & wanted to be his sitter- yet they still put me on his schedule!
Upset I apoloigized & said I could not work for them, I just could not do what they needed me to do.
Now this past yr have been working as an Ophth tech, received my CNA license & accepted in an accredited ADN-RN program starting in Aug. I have an excellent reputation & have 8 yrs of honorable military service.
Question: Do I have to put that 1 day down for work history for my background & work histories for my future jobs? Will that 1 day show up in my background?
This is now haunting me....
Tks for reading and replying....
