call me crazy

Published

Hello everyone. starting school after 10 years of taking classes it's here. I'm doing a career change from a Travel agent to a nurse. I still want to do both. I own my own agency and love travel. I love the people and selling. I also love nursing iI volunteer in a ERand know it will be different. Am I crazy to want to do both professions. What I do know is that nursing will not be my full time job. I'm in it beacuse I want to help and make a difference. I am fortunate so money is not that much of an issue for me and our family. I have 3 small children under the age of 7. so I want to work twice a month on weekends and keep doing travel during the week. I dont want to feel burnt out and get mean like some of the nurses are in my er. Right now I go in and feel good when I leave I want to keep those feelings. Am I carzy to go to school just for those reasons and to continue 2 professions has anyone else done this? Thanks so much for listening Im in it for the llong haul!

I wish you the best of luck! One thing I will say about only working per diem or part time as a nurse as opposed to full time, I think that it prevents or atleast delays burn out. I know that when I work less than full time, I look forward to going to work much better and feel my decent attitude is usually even better. Just my two cents worth!

Hi Donnar

I worked part time as an RN and had my own aerobics business in Tasmania. I ran my business around the days I nursed. I had set working days in the hospital so it was easy to have set days in aerobics.

I loved the life of doing both things that I loved. Aerobics was a great break from nursing in ICU.

Do let us know how you progress. :)

Yep, sounds pretty crazy to me. But most of us in nursing are crazy.

Good luck!

I had a woman in my nursing class that was also a travel agent. She had 2 kids under 10, and both were VERY involved in sports. She had to travel with them to games and all that good stuff. She worked PT as a travel agent while in nursing school. She now works FT as a nurse and PT as a travel agent. It can be done, just be very organized and determined. And take help when it's offered. Good luck!;)

I used to be a travel agent. Need help? ;) I think staying with what you love will keep you motivated and give you perspective. I am a new RN after 20+ years in corporate communications. I'm getting ready to make a change from a demanding oncology position to occupational health so I can use my experience in industry and communications -- and even travel, maybe! In other words, I don't think we have to be a clinicians only. I'm certainly looking forward to being a well-rounded nurse. Good luck to you!
