call back?

Published

I applied at a hospital last week for the first time in over a year. I've had my license for a year and a half, applied at several hospitals with no luck as they rarely hire LPN's around here. I finally applied at some nursing homes and a jail. I ended up getting an 80% job at a jail and also a very part-time nursing home job. The jail job is ok, but I still have'nt gotten full-time even though they said I "probably would" get it several months ago. I hate the NH job-just so depressing and I really need to make more money with all my debt and loans, ect. Anyway, I recently met a lady who said that a small hospital where she works hires LPN's (esp. males). I applied last Thursday and my new friend said they asked about me and she thought for sure I would at least get an interview, but it may be in the nursing home part of the hosptial to start and most likely 3rd shift. I'm hoping its not, but may consider it if the pay and benefits are good and it sounds like you can get into the hospital easier that way. Do you guys think I should call and talk to the DON early next week or wait it out another week or so until the holidays are over? I've heard both good and bad about call backs. Anybody have any experience in this area?

I would probably wait until the Monday after New Years and give the DON a call to express my interest. And, also, speak to your friend to ask what the feeling is about doing so, since she/he is already an employee there, and understands their culture more than you.

Best wishes!

thanks. I was going to wait until next Monday (if they did'nt call this week), but my friend says I should call the DON tomorrow as it would show I'm really interested. I guess I should, but not sure what to say besides "I was just checking on my application". Does that sound good? or should I ask "are you hiring now" or "can we set up an interview"? You see I don't even know for sure they are hiring but my friend says they are...

Since your insider said to call now I'd try to get the person who will do the hiring on the phone and say something like, "Hi, my name is Medsport. I submitted an application on Dec xx and am calling to follow up in hopes of setting up an interview with you." Good luck!

I would send the DON a "Thank You" card in the mail. I would write a message in the card that reads, "Thank you for taking the time to review my application. I appreciate it."

This will help to keep you in consideration for a job in case management has forgotten about your application. Good luck to you!
