California's 2010 New Grad RN Program

Published

2010 is fast approaching so I think there must be a new thread for 2010 new grad program. I hope the moderators will allow me to post this new thread. I'm currently working at Monrovia Memorial Hospital which is 40 miles away from our apt. We live here in Playa del Rey, near the LAX and unfortunately I don't drive yet. I'm looking for any hospitals that offers new grad program for next year. I'm not even sure if I'm still qualified for a new grad program because it will be my 8th month this Jan. working at Monrovia Memorial. Anyone could share any info..Thanks..

i really don't see the point of Cedars sending out that teaser e-mail, when they can just decided to send the email out to people with 3.5 and above.

(Note: I'm playing devil's advocate here.) It's an easy way to start weeding people out. When you have 15 spots open and 2000 applicants, you have to start somewhere. They're trying to weed down to the top 1% of applicants (which, sadly, is a higher statistic than some of the residencies right now are accepting...) Why would they interview those with relatively lower GPAs when there are bound to be applicants with high GPAs AND amazing interpersonal skills AND solid clinical knowledge AND a preceptorship in the area of interest AND good letters of recommendation AND BSN/ACLS/PALS AND a masters in public health...

Sadly, when the competition is THIS stiff, every little thing is an automatic disqualification. It's rough.

im feeling your pain. i'm right there with you. nowadays, i feel like they're looking for a Goddess-like nurse sent from above- with qualifications that you just cannot meet unless you're just that amazing-. must have perfect grade, perfect preceptorship, perfect certification, perfect enthusiasm, perfect work experience. are you talking about packard :lol2:

i have been a member of the forum for a year now. i have been very active when i first joined the forum because of all the support i got from everyone. when i passed my nclex last august the joy was there to share. when i started applying for jobs, i have become too frustrated to even ask anything. like everyone else, i have been applying to every hospital, SNF, acute care, rehab, and nursing homes out there but no luck. i've only had 2 calls so far and only 1 interview. i am desperate and there are times that i had given up looking and would not submit an online application for a week or two because i haven't heard from any of the 100+ applications (or even more!) that i have submitted to. i know everyone is saying it's a matter of time, and to wait because everyone has his time. but i'm a 07 local grad and it's been too long already =( i have my BSN, my bls and acls certificates, and a current per diem job (i only get about 2 calls from them in a month!!) which helps "brighten" up my resume a little. but WHAT DO THEY WANT??? i do NOT understand what else they want out of a new grad :(

hi guys!! i'm graduating this May and i'm just wondering whether it is better to take the NCLEX first before you apply for new grad program or should i go ahead and pass my application?

You are better off taking the NCLEX and passing it and then start applying unless you are extremely lucky and have something lined up before graduating. Most online apps will ask for your RN #. If you don't have it, there are thousands that will have it.

Good luck.

I say still apply, I (and 4 other New Grads) got the position on my unit before passing the NCLEX, so it does happen. :) Good luck!

was it hard to focus on studying for the NCLEX while doing the program? most of the new grad programs start in june and july and those are the months that i'm supposed to review for NCLEX.

From what i've seen so far, all the residency programs require their applicants pass the Nclex & have lic in hand by the time the program starts.

Does anyone know how to find this job posting? I can't find it.

I tried looking for the UCDavis new grad program as well and couldn't find.

I have an interview for an RN spot that I heard about through word of mouth. So if you have any friends who aren't stingy with details of open spots, I'd definitely ask around. It also helps to have friends/relatives who already work in hospitals so they can let you know of any openings that may not be publicized. And no, I'm not talking about nepotism-- that is unfair to people who really worked their butts off during nursing school and don't have connections.
