Did you apply? What are your stats like? If you get in will you go or do you have (an)other preferred option(s)? What things have you heard about the program?

Hi there! I'm currently in cohort 5 and I can answer some common questions I saw:

  1. Textbooks
    1. You will receive a textbook bundle with a discount code. These are the books you need for semester 1 and 2. They make it seem like you NEED to buy through the publisher, however it's not necessary. You may be able to find the textbooks for cheaper, but the important part is the access codes for online homework. I found it more worth it to buy the bundle for the first half, but not the second half. Some people opted to not buy the bundle and just buy access codes as needed. Prepare yourself--bundle #1 is EXPENSIVE (like over $800).
  2. Working
    1. I personally worked per diem as a medical receptionist. I know people who worked part time (some people even did night shift) as CNAs/restaurant hosts/ED techs. You need pretty good time management to work part time. I know I can't do part time and I'm fortunate to live at home with my parents and not worry about many bills.
  3. Schedules
    1. Your schedules will be made for you. The time you leave clinicals will entirely depend on your instructor. Some people left around 4-5 pm. Others left at 6:30-7 pm. Just prepare yourself for 12 hour days (6:30-18:30) and be pleasantly surprised if you leave early.
  4. When will I get my schedule?
    1. You will learn that you will sometimes wait a very long time for things. The faculty is trying their best, just be patient!
  5. Did I do a video interview?
    1. Yes, to my knowledge only one person did not do a video interview for my cohort.
  6. How many people got accepted into my cohort?
    1. 41

I hope this helps! Good luck to anyone reapplying for Spring! ?

Specializes in student.

@lvsfrmthvn Thanks for all that great info on what to expect. Do you happen to know how many waitlisted people were in your cohort? Thanks!

Hi!! Thanks for this info. Prior to your first semester and clinical placement, did you have to get all of the following things?

Background check, LAFD fire card, BLS card, drug screening, , TDAP, TB, Varicella, MMR, and Hep B shots or titers to check antibodies

Thanks!

To my knowledge, only a few but that may be because they put the majority of waitlisted people into the Spring cohort! For my applications cycle, they accepted for both fall and Spring.

Hi!

Things you need done before first semester: BLS, , all titers (if you need to redo any vaccines, you don't have to get them all done before school starts. Just get started before school starts and communicate with the school)

The school will send you a link to sign up for a castlebranch account. This keeps track of all your clinical site requirements.

Things included in castlebranch: drug screening, background check, physical form

The school will sign you up for fire card and Management of Assaultive Behavior. If you already have these, you don't have to do them again (unless they're going to expire during your time in the program)!

@lvsfrmthvn

You're amazing, thank you so much. Do you mind sharing where you got your and BLS cards? I've seen BLS classes range from $25 to $200 so not really sure where to start!

The majority of my nursing colleagues use NSO for their . The BEST BLS class I've taken was from surefirecpr (there's multiple locations in LA/OC). There's a bunch of classes available ranging from BLS, ACLS, PALS, etc. I think you can buy a combo deal. If you do your ACLS; you can get your BLS for $50 more I believe. I strongly encourage you to add ACLS to your resume because almost all of the hospitals require it upon hire. I have worked as an RN for almost 3 years and it seems that ACLS is the way to go. Hope this helps ?

Hi guys, I’m applying Spring 2023. Did anyone get into Fall 2022 with no CNA/clinical experience? I have volunteer hours with direct patient care but that is about it. A little nervous that will not be enough but wondering if anyone has gotten in under similar circumstances. Thank you!

Yep. I got in with no medical experience or patient care whatsoever.

I also did not have any CNA/clinical experience. I did COPE Health Scholars for 150 hours (and over 200 hours in hospital volunteer back in 2010), but honestly think my strongest point was my personal essay/statement of purpose as I completely ground my entire heart and soul into it.

LOL, wow that makes my work experience and certifications look worthless. How did your grades fair?
