The neutrality agreement the CNA and the SEIU obtained between Tenet Healthcare and the SEIU has been ruled as "Illegal Assistance to Unions" by the National Labor Relations Board. This precident was set after a suit filed by a Los Angeles area RN from Whittier Hospital Medical Center.
The Hospital has formally anounced that they will no longer recognize the CNA as the bargaining agent for the Registered Nurses at that facility. Talks with the SEIU have ended. The CNA has also agreed to REFUND union dues collected under this illegal agreement.
This affects Tenet and former Tenet employees who may have had dues collected illegally under this "Neutrality Agreement". If your hospital voted in the CNA and/or the SEIU under this agreement and the union won but not by a majority of the bargaining unit you may be able to have the results of the election overturned and your unlawfully collected dues refunded to you.
Will someone please tell me what is going on with the CNA in hawaii?
I was approached last week (not so politely) about joining..I thought HNA was the union for us in Hawaii.
I haven't joined either yet, but would like to know what is what and who is who..
I am a bit baffled as to why CNA would be in Hawaii???
any help/info/advice is greatly appreciated. Mahalo!
The CNA has formed a new name and call themselves the NNOC or National Nurses Organizing Committee. They are traveling about the country raiding other unions or attempting to unionize non-union nurses. They were recently successful in raiding a union in Illinois.
It seems they are failing to keep enough support in California and need to find other other ways to make money to finance their brand of politics. They are spending a ton of their members money trying to discredit our Governor.
check out http://www.stopunions.com for more insight into the CNA
I understan they are also affiliating with the AFLCIO. So much for the "professioal association". They are also dues paying members of the Labor Party http://www.thelaborparty.org the CNA pays $1000 dollars a year of dues money to belong. Do you agree with these politics?

As was previously pointed out, if you disagree with their politics you can have your union dues donated to a charity of your choice.

Failing to keep enough support in California? CNA just won a decertification election in San Diego where union opponents failed to throw them out of one facility. And they've defeated the governor in all of his attempts to roll back portions of the ratio law.
The only defeats CNA has suffered is from the Bush controlled National Labor Relations Board which ... surprize ... is anti-union. That doesn't mean CNA is losing any ground in California.
Schwarzenegger's approval rating is in the low '30s so ... if the governor is discredited, certainly he deserves some of the blame. And if the voters happen to agree with the unions which, obviously some of them do with the low approval rating, that doesn't indicate a lack of support but, rather, a position of strength.

Might want to update.
Closing this thread now as strayed off original topic.

The CNA or any union for that matter cannot take the credit for everything that we have accomplished. People stand up everyday for themselves and their coworkers and they do it without a union. I do believe that there is strength in numbers and I also know that there are far more non-union workers than unionized workers. We have the numbers and the unions do not.
All the things that you give 100% credit to the CNA for were made possible because of the contributions of the non-union nurses as well. We write our political representatives voicing our opinions on issues that concern us. We vote. We participate on committees and we teach. We take action when we are wronged and we give credit when credit is due. I am not blind, I am one of the many who actually see the light. I am one of the many who know that we make a difference in this world and our voices are heard. I do not do this alone, WE do this TOGETHER!
We do this without the corruption and infighting of the unions. We do this while respecting each others opinions and we do this without forcing each other to pay to support political causes and actions we do not believe in. Much can be accomplished quietly and behind the scenes with the right words and actions. We don't need to grandstand and posture for attention. Whats right is right, nothing can change that.
