Im just wondering how much is the minimum hourly rate in NICU when you're a new nurse.I've worked for 6 years back in saudi in NICU but since i dont have a USA experience, the hosp wants to let me undergo some trainings and really to undergo orientation just like a new nurse do.Before i'll sign anything or be commited, could anyone pls help me,what salary to consider for me being a new nurse? Will $35/hr be a minimum salary hourly or is it high already?Pls help asap!!!!!:(

It is going to depend on the area of CA. What you are quoting is the Bay Area, but is definitely not typical of the rest of the state.

Even though you had experience back in your country, you will have to go thru the orientation process here as a new grad. Some things will be very similar, yet there are others that will be quite different. With experience, you will move thru the orientation quickly, but it is only fair to you and the facility that they make sure that you and them are both using the same terms, etc.

Also, just to throw in, there is no minimum hourly rate per se, hospitals can set what ever rate that they wish. But in order to get immigration to approve documents, your salary has to be at least within a certain level for that area, so that you are not getting taken advantage of.

Yeah,i do agree with you..it's safer for me as well to go through trainings and anything just to be in a US standard of nursing. So,that rate is more of in the bay area?Hmmm, actually,i just got interviewed today in Tarzana hosp in Encino,CA,and they want me to work with them and joined their NICU team. The funny thing is i am embarrassed to ask about my hourly rate:mad: Guess,i will have to find out about my pay one way or the other, then.

I have a permanent visa here in USA now, actually. The reason I asked about hourly pay rate is bec my husband dont want me to commit into anything yet until i'll hear from other offers, but I dont want another offer,i want to work in tarzana hosp already...guess,im just missing my job so much,i dont even care about money, whew!Or should I wait for other offers, gosh, going through interviews just drives me crazy.

Thanks for the help!

Just wanted to let you know that this thread is more than three years old. Someone might have information for you, but it probably won't be the OP as she hasn't posted here since July of '06.

I hope someone with good information responds.
