california lvn pay scale

U.S.A. California

Could someone give me some insight into the average pay scale for LVNs in Sacramento? I have had two job interviews and the pay seems SO low. Per Diem is high of course, but I was looking for full time. With the cost of Daycare, why work if my whole check will just pay for daycare? If I could know what some of the others in the LVN field are getting perhaps I can have more fuel in the interviews. Thanks

I work in Sacramento for an agency and make 25/hr plus gas. It all depends upon the case, medi-cal cases are not going to pay as much as private insurance cases. I became an lvn in 84, was raising kids for 16 years and have re-entered the work force as of last year. Although I was off for a long time, i kept up my license and did volunteer work. Now, I do peds in home care and love it.

Specializes in Med-Surg.

I'm not a nurse (yet) but I've heard at Kaiser its about $19-22/hr in southern California. i guess you'll see that in the more expensive places to live. but don't quote me on it.

Does anyone know how one becomes an independent home health lvn?

Specializes in ED/TELE.

At my last job I worked on a Tele Unit at a hospital in Ventura County and made $28/hr - and I earned every cent, if not more.

OMG.. I want to work for CDC. Do they hire LVN's? Or do you need experience as an RN before you're considered??

Omygoodness, I am a new grad up in the sticks and I make 17hr starting wage. As an LVN I am a charge nurse at a skilled health facility taking care of 30 residents and it is stressful, I have a ton of responsibility. I would take nothing less than this and will definitely be getting more soon. 11 bucks an hour. Thats what the cna's make and there license is not on the line like mine! what in the world is that all about???

Specializes in Case mgmt., rehab, (CRRN), LTC & psych.

The post that had mentioned the $11 hourly pay rate for LVNs was created way back in 2004. This is an old discussion with outdated information, so it would be a prudent idea to pay careful attention to the dates of the posts before responding to them. :)

This pay $11 an hr. is too low even for a new grad. You should a least be able to get $17 an hour. This company is not being fair to you. I would recommend you look elsewhere. This was the pay in the panhandle of Florida, ($11 hr.)and nursing care is very poor there.

If companies expect high standards of care from their staff, they need to pay them fairly and accordingly! That being said, if you are a nurse being paid well, give quality care and work your hardest.

This discussion was started in 2004, which is the reason for the low pay rates being quoted.

I work at SNF,where lvns are started at 23$ with benefits and 24+2$ or 3$ without. and it is one of the lowest paying places in sacramento btw.
