I don't know about the national or state wide pay range...but at my facility LVN's start at about $11 and cap out at approx $19 (after many years of experience/shift differential).
Pay is not that great for LVNs across the board...and, sorry to say, that's why I encourage people NOT to become LVNs...at least for the long term. Especially not if you're looking for the earning power.
I understand that some choose LVN as a permanent career path, or as a stepping stone, but it's very important to realize the implications of each choice.

Why is it so low over there? Payscale.com stated that LVN makes an avearge of 48k a year. Is this wrong then?

For the Sacramento area, median salary is about $38,000 for full time LVNs. Averages out to about $20/hr. Sounds aboout close to what LVNs are making where I work (+/- for experience).
Could someone give me some insight into the average pay scale for LVNs in Sacramento? I have had two job interviews and the pay seems SO low. Per Diem is high of course, but I was looking for full time. With the cost of Daycare, why work if my whole check will just pay for daycare? If I could know what some of the others in the LVN field are getting perhaps I can have more fuel in the interviews. ThanksLDSHAW
My friend lives in the East coast and was an LPN.
she started at 15/hr back in 1995 at LTC. she was able to get into an acute care hospital and started at 19/hr. now she's making 27/hr which is the astrting rate for new grad RN here. agency pays as much as $37/hr.
Her husband was relocated to West Covina and she had to move as well.she was so disappointed that despite her years of experience she's just making $19.75/hr. (back to squareone).
I don't know why the pay is so low....i live in southern california and my job hires new grads starting at $21.00/hr in a SNF
I started working as a new LVN in San Jose earning $25/hour.
I am considering moving to the San Diego area, and I hear LVN
salaries are much lower there.
Anyone has info on LVN salaries in San Diego?

$11/hour for a starting LVN in CA? Are you sure?
I know some high school dropouts who make $12/hour babysitting.
As An Lvn My Pay Range Has Always Been $21-26 Hr. Also- Lvns Can Do Own Independant Work Through Medical And Regional Dds, Listing Yourself As A Provider ( Check Internet) Or Pm Me If Interested I Can Give You Some Numbers.
This Is Being Your Own Boss, Billing Above Agenciesdirectly And Dds Paying Almost $30 Hr, Medical Paing About $25, You Run Your Own Business Pay Your Own Taxes Findyour Own Cases Which Is Not Hard Because The Agencies Can Not Supply The Demand.
I Would Question Any Job That Pays Less Than $20 Hr Because Most Pay That And More...my Experience. Good Luck.
Ps/ Sacto Is Dirty Very Polluted So What You Make Will Not Compensate The Health Of You And Your Family. Best Of Luck!
