I Was reading old post on allnurses and came across someone stating Cali doesn't recognize EC and won't issue you a license even if you are currently working in another state. This post was 5 years old, so I called the california RN board in sacramento and they confirmed and stated they will not allow you practice in California with a degree from EC. They stated that EC was the only school they don't allow. Sucks because I'm moving to California. Anyone have some info or suggestions. Have a great day!

Apply for a job with the VA. You can work for the VA in any state with your nursing license from your home state. You don't need to get a CA license to work for the VA in CA.

Welcome to allnurses! The information about which states have some caveats related to EC can be found on their website:

I am an EC grad and unable to endorse into California, but I am also an Army nurse and can work anywhere for Uncle Sam using my Virginia license. :)

The California Board of Registered Nursing is mostly concerned with the manner in which you attained your initial professional registered nursing education. They also place high importance on the number of clinical hours that you have completed. Since Excelsior's nursing programs do not come close to CA's requirement of 800 clinical hours, they will not allow Excelsior grads to endorse into that state.
In general, RN-to-BSN completion programs do not generate enough clinical hours to satisfy CA's requirements. In addition, since the BSN completion program is not part of one's initial nursing education, CA will not consider it.
thank you for explaining that. I am not from Cali, but it does limit any travel jobs.
