I took my NCLEX in California then recipricated it back into WA State because I was not able to take the test again under WA RN licensure requirements. (I live and work in WA State.) I received my CA license in 2003. I notice on the renewel there is are 30 units of CE requirements in CA. I have none. :o Dah!! Any suggestions? I feel like such a dork!

Thanks.

Since it has been more than four years since you received your CA license and you have not kept up with the CE requirements and I assume have not renewed the license, your license has probably been suspended. Licenses that have not been kept active or placed in an inactive status are suspended after a period of four years. You will probably have to reapply for a new license and might have to take the NCLEX over again. Contact the BRN in CA to find out where you stand. Good luck.

this is interesting to me. I will take my boards in California and am likely moving to another state.

Sooo, after I get my license and use reciprocity to go to another state, I have to keep up the CE credits from California?

Yes. Any state you get a license with you have to follow their requirements to keep your license active. Usually 30 units of CE every two years (for CA) will cover the requirements for most states. On the CA application for renewal that the OP should have received in the mail, the question is posed about completion of CE. The only difference is that in her case, the first renewal does not require CE. She would have been subject to the CE requirement at her second renewal in 2007 if her first license was granted in 2003.

:uhoh21: Well upon further investigation, this is my second renewel. I am such a shmuck. I guess I will have to call the CBN and see if there is a suspension period until I get the required CE or what. I still have my RN licensure in WA, where I work. They don't require CE in WA State so it's one of those cases that I became comfortable with what I was doing and forgot to watch the back door.....dah dah dah! :nono:

Thanks for the replies.

I have been an RN for 14 years and have NEVER worked in CA. I have managed to keep my CA license active because of my CEU's. Good luck in getting those CEU's completed for your license.

Just a rabbit trail.....I don't think I will ever let my CA license lapse. Took me too long to get it :). We won't retire in CA, but I will always keep my original licensure. current.
