to all those who are testing or have tested in california, i would like to ask a favor.
california is one of a few states that does not participate in the quick results service that pearson provides to those who have taken the nclex. california will not release any results until the candidate's file is complete. once the file is complete and final transcripts have been released from the school, the results are mailed and the person's name and information will appear when a permanent license search is done on the brn website.
we are given an authorization to test even if our file is not complete, but we have no right to our test results. this seems a bit odd. i have heard of folks waiting up to two months to get their results from the california brn. now, what if someone took the test and failed but was actively working as an ipn while awaiting test results?? once you fail, you lose your ipn status, but this doesn't occur until the results have been mailed out. if you can't get any official results released, nobody knows if you passed or failed. you could conceivably work as an ipn for a significant amount of time and then get notification that you failed and shouldn't be working. that just really doesn't make sense to me!
the nclex is a national exam administered by an outside agency, yet the california brn holds our results and will not even allow an unofficial result although 37 other states allow the results to be released within two to three days of testing. :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire
if you have the same issues as i do on this subject, i urge you to use the customer service form that is available on the brn website to make a complaint/suggestion/whatever you want to call it.
thanks!

Jaimee...I haven't received my ATT even though my file has been complete for a couple of weeks (as evidenced by my recent issuance of an IP). It was my understanding that they would not issue an ATT until all paperwork was complete. Otherwise, how will they know if you graduated or not? They can't authorize you to test if you haven't officially graduated, right???
Actually, California will issue an ATT before your file is complete. The school sends a list of "candidates expected to graduate" to the BRN. I graduated from the nursing program on April 28th and received my eligibility letter from the BRN the following week. Included with the letter of eligibility was a checklist showing that my transcripts were still needed. California won't issue you any test results without the transcript though.
I went online and registered for the NCLEX, and I received my ATT in email about an hour later.
Did you get a letter saying you were eligible to take the boards? If so, I am guessing you registered through mail or by phone instead of online.
I think that either they should issue the ATT after the file is complete or allow you to obtain at least unofficial results if your file isn't complete after you test. It all just seems so silly and backwards...but what do I know?!?!
