4 years of LPN does help which is more experience than your typical new grad here in Cali. Like what everybody else has mentioned, go ahead and apply for endorsement but it ain't gonna be easy.
Majority of the hospitals in SF bay area do not even have new grad programs available. You are better off looking into So Cal as there are more hospitals down there thus more opportunities. I'm from the SF bay area and have played this game as a new grad so I know how difficult it is. If you are hell bent on the SF bay area, you have to go get out of the area like Sac or further north of Sac into the "rural" areas if you want a hospital job. Salary even in these rural areas of northern CA are 10.00 more per hr than your big shot fancy hospital in So Cal.
Good luck.
Your chances of finding gainful hospital employment would increase exponentially if you started looking at facilities in rural Midwestern podunk towns where few people really want to live. If you want a hospital job, look toward the Heartland. Stay away from the congested metropolitan areas where everyone wants to live.i am licensed in ny and nj but having an awful time trying to get into a hospital... my next life of defense is to move to california (since'id have a choice of two places to live - LA area or SFBA) or possibly out of the country... according to this board, the posters dont seem as desperate and defeated as the nyc boards... do you think its worth a try?? if so, ill jump on it and start applying for endorsement...
I have 6 years of critical care experience and I have been working travel contracts for 4 months because I haven't been able to find a staff position. I am in the SF Bay area. Jobs are not falling from the sky for experienced nurses out here much less new grads. All this and...very expensive to live here. The higher salaries mitigate that factor somewhat but only if you are actually making a salary!
