Anyone planning on applying to the Spring 2011, CSUSM, accelerated ABSN program? Just wondering if there is anyone else out there:)
I went to an info session which was really informative. I learned that you only need the prenursing core to be considered, so you don't need to worry about having the additional requirements finished. They have at anytime 1000 applications but those are not all complete. It does makes sense to get the application in and then get your guide and send up dated transcripts. BUT.. you will not be scored, have GPA calculated until they have all you prenursing core transcripts in and evaluated.
They do admit monthly or so. The advisors will take whomever is ranked and will take a certain percentage. The percentage is agreed upon between the advisors (however they do it) and they take all ranked applicants above that percentage. So if your 38 points puts you in the top 20 percent and for that "round" they are taking the top 25 percent then you will be accepted. If your 28 points is in the top 26 percent you will be pushed to the next round. They lower the percentage each round until they have a full cohort.
My advisor said that they powers above want the cohort full before summer starts but that they also like to initiate a round with the most ranked applicants. hence, they try to do it as late as possible to ensure a majority of people are evaluated and ranked.
Unfortunately your ranking could change because more people are ranked each round but you are should be moving up because the higher scores are being eliminated by acceptances or declines. That's all I can remember for now.
Did they say anything about how many rounds of admits they've done so far? Or how many seats were left? I know they were filling spring up until January, but this cohort only has Temecula admits...
So I still haven't heard anything ... but just wanted you to know that I found out today that I got into Cal State Long Beach's ELMSN program so if I get a letter to San Marcos I will be declining the acceptance which will open up a spot. Good luck to everyone... I will see you in the field!!!
GO BEACH! I
Hi all,
I'm currently in the 9th cohort at Temecula that just started this spring 2011. here's some quick info:
1. I believe they send acceptance letters all the up to a month or 2 before the new term starts (so in this case Fall 2011/August 2011)
2. I'm not sure how competitive the next cohort for Fall is, but as stated in posts back, out of a 52 point scale, a 52 doesn't exist (yet), however a competitive cutoff score is around the 30s. I will also add that I am living proof that they do accept applications under the 30 point mark! There's hope! (When I turned in my app, i didn't have any prereqs in progress.)
3. Just hang in there and sit tight. The advisors are really helpful if you are concerned with anything. I started my first semester in January, and I was notified of my acceptance in mid November 2010.
GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!
mimizan: I have no idea how many rounds they have accepted because I don't think they can talk about it (?) but I would guess that they had a round in january and after that I don't know. They do have high scores like in the high forties and for the rounds they have admitted It should be around the top 15% or so (pure guess). They said that the cohort is filling fast but my advisor said they really don't want to be full until the summer, which I read as they want to give folks finishing classes this semester a chance. If you look at the scores vs applicants historically the average score is low given the low number of applicants. I would expect that for this cohort there are probably 500 applicants who are ranked, meaning they have completed the prenursing core and TEAS. Since 28 was the last average score accepted I see that jumping largely. I would expect at least a 31 to be the average admitted applicant.
However, it is an expensive program and like malefocker they would accept bids from schools that have some CA subsidizing. So that could bring the score down... but the average for the regular nursing bs (much cheaper, but way more requirements) the average scores are much higher. This Extended learning path is a greater expense which not everyone who applies will be able to afford. So I could be totally wrong.
But like ctm21 I was admitted to the last cohort and heard in mid november as well. I couldn't make it work, so people do turn it down making way for a few with lower scores.
mimizan are you waiting for an update from ATI or CSUSM?Anyone know if updates need to be official transcripts? My spring grades are just about available and trying to figure out if I need to send official or not. I think this will complete my file so I want them to get there asap!
Oaktown - I'm waiting for my advisor at CSUSM. You can send unofficial and then do final transcripts in the mail. Waiting, for me, is the hardest part!
