Cal State Long Beach interview

Published

I have applied for a nursing program this september, and I was invited to the interview for next Monday. However, it is said if you have over 90 units, you may not able to change my major. Right now, I am in Design major, and hoping to change to Nursing major. I wonder what kind of change I have to change my major. I have earned 105 units already.

Before I received the email about the interview, I have asked about my senior status in school, and Monalisa said that I cannot change major any more since I have earned more than 90 units. I have to graduate first and then resubmit an application to school.

I thought that I would get a denial letter. I was surprised that I was invited to the interview.

I wonder what is the meaning of the interview for me. Monalisa told me that I can not change my major any more.

I also wonder if I was accepted by a nursing department, but the college of dean may deny my changing major, what I have to do next. Do I have to start over again? First I have to graduate school with current major, and then submit a general application to CSULB and then submit a nursing application to Nursing department, then have an interview gain??? Or if I am accepted by nursing department after interview, but denied by CSULB, will I be automatically accepted after resubmit a general application to CSULB?

I am also worry about the interview. I am not native speaker. Will it be hard for me? My interview will be next Monday. I hope it is not so hard.

I don't think the interview will be hard for you based on your writing. I think you'll be fine.

I do think it's a bit strange that you got an interview interview when you are above the 90 unit max. Your 105 units, does include external credit (AP and other credit through testing), right?

I'm not sure how it'll work, but I definitely think they should let you know now than later. There is a thread for CSULB Spring 2012 in the California Program forum. Try posting there.

Anyway good luck and let me know how it goes!

I think you should go see a counselor at CSULB to get that all figured out since this is much to important to rely on an answer here in this forum... If you can get over there today or Monday before your interview you might have a better feeling going into the interview.

Thank you. By the way, the following is the email that I received. There were 30 email attached besides me. Probably, all people have similar problem with me.

Congratulations. CSULB's School of Nursing Admissions Committee has

reviewed your application, transcripts and test scores, and you have

been chosen to move to the second stage of the admission process.

However, you only are being offered a chance to interview, but you will

not be offered admission to the nursing program if the university will

not allow your change your degree objective. Applicants with over 90

units may not be offered admission if the university deems that they

must graduate as soon as possible. Applicants who are denied may reapply

to the program as a second degree seeker after they graduate.

The second stage of the admission process consists of a _mandatory

interview_ with the School of Nursing's faculty. The interview process

includes a short writing assignment, a one on one activity and a small

group interview. The interview process should take about an hour. The

dress code is business casual. The only items you need to bring is a

photo ID and a pen or pencil.

Thank you. I will see a counselor next week. I have contacted to a nursing advisor, but she rever respond me.

Does your 105 units exclude (AP and other credit through testing)?

Good luck on your interview. I hope they'll let you in even if you are over the 90 unit cap.

Thank you. I know. I emailed to a nursing department advisor twice, but no responce.

I don't know who to meet. I have already met a general counselor last week. I hope miracle happens.

By the way, my score is 9.5 out of 10 points. My GPA is 4.0. I studied really hard to get this point.

I know it's a little late, and that everyone has found out if they made it into the program or not, but I just wanted to let you know that I was in the same position for this fall semester. I got into the program for fall 2011, but the school refused to change my major because I had already completed 115 units. I had just about everything ready to go to start, and there was nothing I could do. I talked and emailed everyone I could, and there was no changing the school's decision.

Thankfully, I got accepted for spring 2012. I am graduating next month, and going right back to school. I really hope that if you got in that the school is letting you change your major. I was devastated for over a week!

Hi jsoriano,

Thank you for a responce. Yes, I got a denial letter; Admition office didn't allow me to change my major.

It said that I have to resumit new application again.

Actually, Monalisa told me that I have to graduate first, and submit again.

You are not graduating yet right? How did you do?

I am graduating next spring, May 2012. I thought that I have to graduate first before I submit new application.

Yes I am graduating next month with a BA in child development and family studies. I suggest applying for fall 2012 for your 2nd bachelors if you're graduating in May. With your grades, and the fact that you were asked to go in for an interview, you have a really good chance at getting in for your 2nd bachelors. There's also accelerated 2nd degree programs, and the entry level master's program at CSULB (I don't think it's being offered until 2013 though). Best of luck to you! I highly suggest that you apply for fall!
